The Franciscan Center welcomes Levin, a freshman at Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School and student associate of the Corporate Work Student Program.
For his first year at Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School Levin will be working at the Franciscan Center on Fridays. He will be helping with plant property and guest services.
He enjoyes playing soccer, which is new to him, but loves American football. His favorite NFL team is the Minnesota Vikings. He wants to become a commercial pilot.

Moment of Pause for Labor Day
As we pause for this coming Labor Day, let us become aware of God’s presence—as close to us as our breath. Today, we give thanks for the gift of work, for the hands and hearts that serve, create, build, teach, heal, nurture, and care for our world.
In the spirit of St. Francis, may we remember that our work is not simply what we accomplish, but one of the ways we participate in God’s loving care for creation and for one another.
Take a moment to breathe deeply. Give thanks for those whose labor has blessed your life, especially those whose work often goes unnoticed.
Prayer:
Good and gracious God,
we thank you for the gift of work
and for all who labor each day.
Bless those who work with their hands,
their minds, and their hearts.
Be especially near to those who are weary,
seeking work, or whose labor goes unnoticed.
Following the example of St. Francis,
teach us to serve humbly, live simply,
and recognize one another as sister and brother.
May the work of our hands bring peace,
the work of our hearts bring compassion,
and our lives reflect your love.
Bless our work and bless our rest.
Make us instruments of your peace.
Amen.

The Franciscan Center is happy to announce the completion of one of the items in our Wish List: a permanent fire pit!!
This was the Eagle Scout project of Adriel San Emeterio. Adriel and members of Troop #22, worked very hard on Saturday to make the fire pit a reality.
We want to recognize the following volunteers:

Perhaps you have heard the story of the disciple who went to the guru and reported, "I feel like two dogs are fighting inside me all day. One is good and kind; the other is bad and mean." "Which one wins?" asks the guru. "The one I feed more," answered the disciple. Characters and animals change, but the story's moral is that we need to be aware of the conflicting voices inside of us and make a conscious decision about which one will guide our thoughts and actions.

Prayer: Good and gracious God, you know me through and through. Please help me choose what leads me to goodness, kindness, generosity, and understanding toward others ... and myself!

The Franciscan Center, Tampa hosted a group of 42 pilgtims from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton guided by Fr. Jim Cogan, Parochial Vicar. Pilgrims tour the beautiful grounds of the Center, ate lunch, attended a presentation and Mass. It was a pleasure to spend time with them. Mary Kay was a great leader and very organized. Everyone had a blessed time and some promised to come back to attend one if the many retreats the Center offers.

The Franciscan Center, Tampa welcomes Cassandra, a Junior at Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School and a student associate of the Corporate Work Study Program.

During this school year, Cassandra will work at the Center on Tuesdays, learning about our mission, hospitality, marketing, arts and environment. She has achieved honor roll every quarter and is very involved in her school's campus life and her church.

She is considering a college degree in Theology. Please join the Center's staff giving Cassandra a warm welcome.
