Cuban Companion Church Solar Panel Update

Thanks to some very generous Adventers, we quickly reached our total amount that was needed to fully fund the solar panels for our Cuban Companion Parish, La Trinidad. $5,200 was wired to Bishop Angel in Puerto Rico. He got the money to Fr. Juan Carlos to pay for the panels. THANK YOU to all of you who contributed to this worthy, life-changing cause. Here are some installation photos.

2026 Advent Vestry/Delegate Nominations Deadline is SUNDAY, September 13!

The Nominating Committee has set a deadline of this Sunday September 13, 2026 to receive nominations to the Vestry and to be a Delegate to Convention.

Please review the qualifications in the by-laws (accessed via the Adventures Newsletter link) or printed copies in the back of the church/chapel. This does require commitment; especially since we will be calling a new Rector and helping with that person's transition into life at Advent-so think/pray hard about it.

NEW BOOK STUDY - Sunday Morning Formation Group + Others

In the New York Times bestseller "An Altar in the World", acclaimed author and Episcopal Priest Barbara Brown Taylor continues sharing her spiritual journey. Our last encounter with Barbara was in studying together “Learning to Walk in the Dark”. We were greatly impacted as she revealed her journeys into the dark with courage, gentleness, grace and bittersweet joy.

In An Altar in the world, Barbara shares how she learned to find God beyond the church walls by knowing to look around, by paying attention, by walking more and talking less, and by encountering others. In summary, she celebrates being human as an act of faith. 12 chapters, less than 200 total pages, and all relatable to each of us. She shows us how to discover the sacred everywhere we go and in nearly everything we do as we learn to live with purpose, pay attention, slow down, and revere the world we live in. This is the ‘theology of our humanness and our world’.

Join us in person or virtually as we work through the book in the coming weeks. The format is simple. We have an assigned chapter to read prior to our class time at 9:30 in the vestry room. About half of participants do the reading. After a brief sharing of questions and highlights, we watch a 5-15 minute video section related to the reading. Then all ask questions and share what we are feeling and learning and intending. If you want to follow at home, we will send you a brief weekly summary and a link to the video presentation. Don’t worry if you can’t attend every session, many class members only attend occasionally.

FIRST CLASS IS SEPTEMBER 13, and we anticipate a 12-week duration. A class member donates a clean copy of the book for any interested Adventer. If you want one, please text Milt (850 210 4246).

Oh, and that guy in the picture is Pierce Withers. He's going to be leading us in our Morning Prayer and delivering the sermon. Pierce is a transitional deacon and will be ordained to the priesthood in October!
