Sometimes we just want to share and praise God for the stories that flow from our prayers the previous year. This is a beautiful next chapter being written in the life of Kara Lee Pifer who shared her story with our page last year.

“After our second son Silas was stillborn in August, we are humbled to share that the Lord has answered our prayers and blessed us with our third son Isaac Liam Pifer born on October 8th and placed in our arms November 17th. Not only do we feel we have been blessed with Isaac but we praise God for the brief life of Silas and how the Lord uses it to grow our faith in Him. We feel so intimately known by our Sustainer. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.”

Challenge Number Three

Give thanks! How often do we come to him in grief and need? Don’t forget we are called to give thanks to Him too. Doing this helps me gain perspective in my situations. It has also helped me when I have no words. Take some time today to do just this. Write down a few ways you are seeing God work in your life and just thank Him for His involvement, His love, His proactivity and His care for you.

Challenge Number Two

"Give yourself visual cues. It’s so easy to get lost in a day-dream or focus on your to-do lists. Put post-it notes in places or whatever works for you to make sure your eyes and heart are seeing and saying prayers. I have prayer prompts on my bathroom mirror, they help me remember to talk to God throughout the day.

Another one of my favorite visual cues is my “prayer wall” (it’s just a large picture frame that hangs next to my bed.) It’s not displayed in a flashy way, it’s hung low, so when I’m in my bed I can go through the systematic items that I’m wrestling through.

This is my favorite because it has been a way that I can really see how God has shown up in big ways."

Challenge Number One

"When someone asks you to pray, do it RIGHT AWAY even if that means sending them a voice text, or a quick pause to pray in the conversation.

The more you do this, the more you will see that God is always present! You don’t have to wait for a perfect environment to reach Him!"

"Last week I went to the doctor. I could tell the lady next to me had cancer, her hair was almost completely gone and she looked quite frail. I felt a nudge to pray with her in the waiting room.

I wish I could tell you I prayed for the woman in the waiting room and that it was like power revival fireworks. But the truth is I didn’t pray. I was too scared of labels and reactions.

The rhythm of praying is a never-ending pursuit, so let me give you some of my go-to survival skills I’ve challenged myself to for my own life. I’ll close out the weekend with these.

Practice each one as you read through them over the next couple of days."

"People often joke that moms of little ones never get a moment of free time. Every mom knows it’s not just a joke. It’s the truth.

Just the other day, my son interrupted me in the bathroom. He’s eleven, but at least he knows to talk to me outside of the door. However, what he had to say seemed to be super important to him! So, instead of the usual “mommy privacy” card I decided to hear him out.

My son had caught a bee with a toy vacuum, and he had transferred it into a jar. He was interrupting me in the bathroom to inform me that “no matter what direction I turn the jar, the bee always flies up.” It was as if his words came out in slow motion.

We must be like the bee!

We have to position ourselves UPWARDS in prayer. When I’m disappointed, I must move closer to Him! When I’m angry or frustrated, He must be the place I run to. Even when I’m feeling thankful, swarming His feet with adoration is where I belong. So may this “bee” your reminder, we must position ourselves UPWARD… in all situations life throws at us."

"It was over a decade ago. I sat on our couch, the one we bought at a run-down convenience store that doubled as a furniture store in DC…

I was doing a spiritual gifts assessment. You see, I’ve never been one for self identification tests of any kind. I think deep down I’ve always been scared that having my strengths and faults known to me would only be like a giant neon highlighter on either the things I should be more humble about or the things I stink at.

Anyway, I don’t even remember the strengths of my spiritual gifts test…I just remembered what my gifts WEREN’T!

The lowest scoring gift was prayer. I sat there in disbelief. To me the results reported 'you aren’t good at talking to your best friend.' I knew I needed a shift in my perspective because my prayer life needed a serious dose of defibrillator.

Anyone else like me? Faced with the reality check of wanting more than a drive-thru spiritual check-in. I longed for a spiritual discipline in prayer that gave me purpose."
