On Feb 18, doors open at 9:30 a.m. The program will begin at 10 a.m. and end around 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. The Mercy & Justice Core Community of the parish organized the event.

Attendees also will hear from several people who will describe the impact of gun violence on their lives.

Gun violence is a growing concern in Leon County and Tallahassee with more than 200 shootings in 2022. The violence led to 21 deaths and 96 injuries. Local government has committed $5 million over the next five years to address the factors contributing to the problem.

“Our forum will help people understand the problem and learn ways they can help to make a difference,” said Laura Ruane, a member of the organizing committee.

The forum is presented by the Mercy & Justice Core Community. For more information, use lauraruane.77@gmailcom.

On Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 PM, the Mercy & Justice Core Community will conduct the annual Cities for Life prayer service. We will pray for those who have been executed by the state, their victims, and the families of both.

Speakers include Maria DeLiberato, the Executive Director of Floridians for Alternatives to the death penalty and Deacon Andy Grosmaire, an advocate for restorative justice. Ms. DeLiberato was successful in securing the freedom of Clemente Aguirre, who was exonerated after serving 14 years in custody. Florida has had 30 exonerations from death row.

Come join us on Wednesday in the church. Live streaming of this event can be accessed through www.GoodShepherdParish.org/LiveStream

To celebrate St. Francis’ Feast Day on Oct. 4, we encourage our parishioners and their families to spend the week of Oct. 3 reflecting and praying upon God’s Creation. Please visit www.GoodShepherdParish.org/creation for family reflections and guides to use during this week.

Big Bend Catholics Caring for Creation hopes this will be a time to discuss taking care of all of God’s creation, and a time to consider how we can do our part to make a difference. Together, let’s focus individually and as households on what actions we can take to preserve that creation, to celebrate nature (with all five senses) and to give glory to God!

After the week of reflection, we invite all to a “Walk of Thanksgiving & Praise.” Please join us at 2:30 PM on Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Miccosukee Canopy Road Greenway, 5600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL. We will have a prayer, a hymn, and time to enjoy this beautiful earth together. All are welcome!
