On June 3rd, 2010, during the Holy Mass and Eucharistic procession to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi in the Square outside the Basilica of Saint John Lateran Pope Benedict said:

“Jesus anticipated his Sacrifice, a non-ritual but a personal sacrifice.

At the Last Supper his actions were prompted by that "eternal spirit" with which he was later to offer himself on the Cross (cf. Heb 9: 14).

Giving thanks and blessing, Jesus transforms the bread and the wine. It is divine love that transforms them: the love with which Jesus accepts, in anticipation, to give the whole of himself for us.

This love is nothing other than the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Father and of the Son, who consecrates the bread and the wine and changes their substance into the Body and Blood of the Lord, making present in the Sacrament the same sacrifice that is fulfilled in a bloody way on the Cross.

We may therefore conclude that Christ is a true and effective priest because he was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, he was filled with the whole fullness of God's love and precisely "in the night on which he was betrayed", precisely, "in the hour... of darkness" (cf. Lk 22: 53).”

Brothers and sisters, that same Agape Love between the Father and the Son - the Holy Spirit - the “Breath of Life” Who hovered over the waters in Genesis 1:2 and Who was breathed into Adam’s nostrils in Genesis 2:7 and appeared the Apostles in the upper room as tongues as of fire (Acts 2:3) filling them, is this same Holy Spirit that makes us One Body in Christ at every mass;

The same Love by which we are Baptized (Fully Immersed) in the Holy Spirit (in the Love between the Father and the Son).

During the epiclesis, we, the congregants, experience a dual transformation:
- we are united as one body and spirit through the Holy Spirit, and
- we are spiritually empowered to live our faith in communion with Christ and one another underscoring the communal and sacramental nature of the Eucharist, inviting us to embody the Agape Love of Christ in our lives.

During the mass, specifically when the priest invokes the Holy Spirit (Epiclesis) to sanctify the bread and wine, transforming them into the Body and Blood of Christ, we, the congregation, too are transformed into One Body and One Spirit, so that those who partake in the Eucharist may become "one body and one spirit" in Christ highlighting the communal aspect of the Eucharist.
He prays that we, the faithful, are spiritually transformed into living offerings to God.

As we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, we are called to embody Christ's love and mission in the world, reflecting a deeper communion with God and with one another.

By invoking the Holy Spirit, the Church asks for the grace that allows us to participate more fully in the divine life of Christ.

This participation is communal, as the Spirit unites us, the congregation, in our mission to live out the Gospel.

This invoking of the Holy Spirit empowers us to live our faith actively. The transformation we undergo during the Eucharist equips us to represent Christ in the world, fostering a sense of responsibility to serve others and promote justice.

Thank you Keith Whelan and all the DCCR Diocesan Commission for Charismatic Renewal for all the great work you have been doing. Your fruit has been greatly manifested for quite some time but most vividly at the last two Masses to pray for healing. Bishop Holley and our beloved priests are delivering such greatly needed healing to the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.

The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church is Charism-atic!!! The charismatic and institutional parts of the Church are both essential to the mission of the Church and when they work together, they can be a powerful force for good in the world.

This Twenty-Eighth Sunday in ordinary time Christ reminds us of His presence at this time of wars, death and destruction all around the world.

Through the mystery of Jesus Christ’s Death and Resurrection, God has destroyed death for ever by transforming it from the end of our story to a passageway into eternal life.

In the Eucharistic feast, we taste the promise of life fulfilled.

Through the mystery of the Eucharist we participate in the mystery of Christ's death and Resurrection united with Him in His sacrifice, nourished by His body and blood and strengthened for our journey to eternal life.

God is in our midst, with us through it all in the midst of suffering and death with the promise of eternal life.

In his encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia (2003), St. John Paul II wrote:

"As we are raised to heaven, heaven itself comes down to us."
Brothers and sisters, Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, Emmanuel - God with us, invites us to the Supper of the Lamb of God - The Bread of Life!

Will we dress in the wedding garment of a state of grace or without the wedding garment; in a state of mortal sin?

What is a charism of the Holy Spirit?

“Paul’s teaching on life in the Spirit is a necessary context for understanding the charisms of the Spirit. A charism, also called a 'gift' (Eph 4:7-8) or 'working' or 'manifestation' (1 Cor 12:6-7) of the Spirit, is a gift freely bestowed by the Spirit for building up the body of Christ.”

Brothers and sisters, I would like to share a short excerpt from Pope John Paul II to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal:

Do not interrupt the journey you have begun!

Have trust: Christ will complete the work that he himself has started.

"Desire the higher gifts!" (1 Cor 12: 31).

Always seek Christ: seek him in meditation on the Word of God, seek him in the sacraments, seek him in prayer, seek him in the witness of your brothers and sisters.

Be grateful to the priests who pastor your communities: through their ministry it is the Church who guides you and helps you as a mother and teacher.

Joyfully welcome the occasions that are offered to you to deepen your Christian formation.

Serve Christ in those close to you, serve him in the poor, serve him in the needs and necessities of the Church.

Let yourselves be truly guided by the Spirit! Love the Church: one, holy, catholic and apostolic!

1. With great joy I send you my greetings for the World Meeting of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, which is taking place in Rimini. You are invited to experience God’s love, His mercy, and the power of the Holy Spirit in a deeper way through this Mass to pray for Healing with Bishop Holley on January 23rd, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Church located at 100 Daniel Drive in Gulf Breeze, Florida behind the Publix shopping center.

Praise and worship begins at 6 pm.
Mass begins immediately after praise and worship and
we will continue until everyone who desires to be prayed over has been prayed over.

Our world is in great pain and in need of healing. Mass unites the Mystical Body of Christ; the Church Triumphant, Penitent, and Militant in worship.

As Jesus laid hands on Saint Peter, so Saint Peter laid hands on his successors who in turn laid hands on the Most Reverend Bishop Holley who Christ chose to celebrate Mass, to invoke the Holy Spirit to transform our offerings into His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity and to lay hands on you, to pray for healing in your life, those in your family and those you wish to pray for.

Concelebrants are Father Nicholas Schumm, diocesan Liaison to the Renewal, Father John Licari, Father Cecil Spotswood, and Father Víctor Ingalls.

Do not underestimate the Holy Spirit or the power of the sacraments.
