The next Parables of Jesus Class, led by Deacon Joe and Dennis Howard, will be offered on Thursday, February 7th from 6-7pm in Cobb Library. No RSVP needed.

We’ll decide on the optimal dates/times for future sessions of the class based on input from participants. All are welcome (this is a parish-wide class, not just for YAMS) - hope to see you there!

Three upcoming opportunities you should know about:

1) Parables of Jesus Class - January 17th
Deacon Joe and Dennis Howard have offered to lead an ongoing series on the parables of Jesus. The first class will be in Cobb Library from 6-7pm on Thursday, January 17th. No RSVP needed. At the first meeting on the 17th, we will seek feedback from the group about how often to meet (perhaps once or twice a month), what time of week is best, etc.

This series will look at interesting and relevant interpretations of the parables of Jesus. As we reflect on these words of Jesus Himself, we hope to: (a) improve our understanding of God’s will; (b) strengthen our resolve to continue walking in the Christian way; and (c) acquire true guidance for facing the daily issues of our lives.

2) Lauren Winner at St. John's - January 29th
Lauren Winner is a well-known author and professor at Duke Divinity School (try not to hold the Duke part against her). I read one of her books a few years ago and really enjoyed her perspective, and if I have read someone's book, you know they must be a baller. Anyway, she will be speaking at St. John's at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 29th - see graphic below for more details. No RSVP needed. Come out to hear Lauren, then if there's interest, we'll plan to walk across the street to Aloft perhaps to enjoy a libation and discuss the talk.

3) Grace Mission Mobile Food Pantry - February 9th
Grace Mission holds a quarterly mobile food pantry, where those in need can come to stock up on groceries. The food pantry requires the help of dozens of volunteers, and St. John's YAMS will be filling some of those spots at the next one on Saturday, February 9th from 9am-1pm. We will need RSVPs for this. More information to come.

Round out the Christmas season with a very special event at St. John's! Please join us for the annual Chili Cook-off and Epiphany Pageant. It is so fun and casual and you need not be a member of St. John's to participate. Invite your friends and just show up! The Chili Cook-off starts at 5:30 and for $5 you get unlimited tastings, Fran's delicious cornbread, and a vote on the Chili champion! There will be a pizza dinner available for children for no charge and then they can pick out their costume, have a brief rehearsal at 6, and the pageant will begin at 6:15. It is so precious! I am co-chairing the pageant with Katherine Colombo Cline Ashler this year and we need some volunteers to help us make this happen! Please check out the sign-up genius to volunteer. There are also a few speaking parts that you can sign your child up for if they would like! Otherwise, they can just come, choose a role, and sing-along as they enact the story of Christ's birth. ❤️

Hi all,  It is once again time for the St. John's Epiphany Pageant! We are looking for wardrobe assistants, rehearsal helpers, children for various speaking parts and other "angels" to help with this wonderful event!
