True humbleness, gentleness, patience, and love cannot be achieved without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

In every area of our lives it is important to show a Christ-like spirit.

Humility - a genuine humility comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ. We are keenly aware of our own nothingness apart from Christ and therefore able to place others before ourselves. It is the exact opposite of conceit and arrogance.

Gentleness - the attitude that submits to God in all things and has no rebellion to Him. It is not seeking retaliation when we are done wrong by an individual, but letting God take care of the situation. If we look to Jesus we see the ultimate example of gentleness.

Patience - be willing to wait. This is an attitude that is sadly lacking in our world today! And we all struggle with it from time to time. But we must have patience with people. Many in our lives have been patient with us, and we should remember that and be patient with others.

Bearing with one another in love - being willing to make allowances for the failings and faults of others in our life. Not becoming irritated with those who have different personalities, abilities, or temperaments than we do. In other words “celebrate the differences!” God made each and everyone of us with different little quirks. After all it would be extremely boring if we were all alike! Showing love to all is in my opinion the hallmark of Christianity. They will know we are Christians by our love for each other.

None of these attitudes come naturally to us, do they? But through Christ we can have not only the outward show of these characteristics, but we can have them in our hearts towards others, genuinely caring for them in Christ-like love. We will experience the bond of peace with each other when we focus on Christ and His love for us!

This week's Bible Verse is Lamentations 3:22-23.

During these difficult times, it can be hard to stay affixed and trusting in how God will use the pandemic for his greater good. It is through Lamentations that we can learn to see lament as an important spiritual exercise that brings our anger, pain, and confusion to God, trusting that he cares about it too.
