Where Will You Spend Eternity?
By Ron Boatwright
Our eternal salvation is the most important thing in this life. It doesn’t matter what we have accomplished if we lose our souls in Hell; we lose it all. Jesus says in Matthew 16:26, "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" Nothing in this world is worth losing our soul over. This life is very short. "It is even as a v***r that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14).
In eternity we will be placed in only one of two possible places: Heaven or Hell. Heaven is so wonderful, we can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like but Jesus says, "There are few who find it" (Matthew 7:14). Heaven is described by our Lord as containing many mansions (John 14:1-3). In Revelation 21:4, we read, "And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
Hell is so terrible that we cannot comprehend how horrible the torment will be with the continual weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 8:12). Jesus says "there are many who go in by it (Matthew 7:14). Those who go there will be "cast into the lake of fire and brimstone…and they shall be tormented day and night forever and ever" (Revelation 20:10). Then in Revelation 20:15 we are warned, "And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." The person who ends up in Hell will only have himself to blame.
Both Heaven and Hell will last forever and ever (Matthew 25:46). Both are eternal and everlasting. The vast majority of people are living their lives as though they don’t believe there is going to be an eternity. Satan has lulled people into a state of complacency. Let’s make sure that we avoid Hell and that we go to Heaven. We must be "even more diligent to make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10).
Our Great Salvation In Christ Jesus
By Ron Boatwright
As faithful Christians we have a great and wonderful salvation that is waiting for us. We cannot even begin to imagine how wonderful it’s going to be. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Corinthians 2:9). We have "an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you" (1 Peter 1:4). "And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away" (1 Peter 5:4).
God has planned for our salvation from the beginning of the world. "Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace, that would come to you" (1 Peter 1:9-10). But we know more concerning our salvation than the people in the Old Testament did, because more details have been revealed to us in the New Testament. "By which have been given to us exceeding great and precious promises that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4). Today we have "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding" (Philippians 4:7).
We must not become complacent and neglect our salvation. We cannot afford to lose it. We are to, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12). Any burden we now bear doesn’t even begin to compare to our great salvation that is reserved for us. "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at things which are seen, but at things which are not seen" (2 Corinthians 4:17). "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him" (Hebrews 2:3). We cannot afford to fail.
Paul says, "Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory" (2 Timothy 2:10). Only those who are in Christ have access to this salvation. How does one get into Christ to have this great salvation? "For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ" (Galatians 3:27). It is at the point of baptism that one gets into Christ. Those of us who are in Christ must continue to diligently serve the Lord. We should serve the Lord with gladness and joy by obeying His every command for Jesus says, "My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 10:30). In doing this we should "be even more diligent to make your call and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10). "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering" (Hebrews 10:23). Jesus promises, "Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of Life" (Revelation 2:10). Let’s make going to heaven our number one priority in this life.

Who Is Allah?
By Ron Boatwright
What religion today practices the pagan rites of the moon-god? Islam. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world today. Many times it has been a violent religion in which one has one of two choices: either convert or die. The religion of Islam has as its focus of worship a deity by the name of "Allah." Allah was a pagan moon-god in Arabia during pre-Islamic times.
Moon worship has been practiced in Arabia and the Middle East since about 2000 BC. The crescent moon is the most common symbol of this pagan moon worship. The moon-god was also referred to as "al-ilah". Originally this was not a proper name of a single specific god, but a generic name meaning "the god". Each local Arab tribe would refer to their own local tribal pagan god as "al-ilah". "al-ilah" was later shortened to Allah before Mohammed began promoting his new religion in 610 AD. Mohammed retained almost all the pagan rituals of the Arabs at the temple, Kabah, and redefined them in monotheistic terms. Today Islam is a false monotheistic religion with its roots in polytheistic paganism.
The Old Testament regularly forbade the worship of the moon-god and other false gods. When the children of Israel came out of Egyptian bo***ge they were warned, "a man or a woman who have been wicked in the sight of the Lord your God, in transgressing His covenant, who have gone and served other gods and worshipped them, either the sun or moon or any of the host of heaven…then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has committed that wicked thing and shall stone to death that man or woman with stones" (Deuteronomy 17:3-5). When Israel fell into idolatry, many times it involved moon-god worship. There are remnants of pagan moon-god worship in the Koran where we have examples of Muslims swearing by the moon. "Nay; I swear by the moon, And the night when it departs, And the daybreak when it shines;" (Koran 74:32-34). Muslims fast during the month that begins and ends with a crescent moon.
The pagan Arab nations worshipped 360 gods, one for each day of the year. The moon-god was a male god and the sun-god was a female goddess. The moon-god was called by various names, one of which was Allah. The Arabs believed that the moon-god was the greatest of all gods. In worshipping their moon-god, Allah, they prayed toward Mecca several times a day, made pilgrimages to Mecca, ran around their moon-god temple called Kabah, kissed the Black Stone, killed animal sacrifices for their moon-god, and fasted for the month which begins and ends with the crescent moon, etc, just as the Muslims do today.
They believed Allah, the moon-god, was married to the sun goddess. Together they produced three goddesses who were called "the daughters of Allah." Allah’s three daughters, Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, and Manat, were viewed as intercessors between the people and Allah and were also worshipped at the Kabah in Mecca. The daughters of Allah, along with Allah’s wife the sun goddess, and Allah were viewed as "high" gods.
Mohammed was raised to worship the moon-god, Allah. The Quraish tribe into which Mohammad was born was particularly devoted to Allah. The literal Arabic name of Mohammed's father was Abd-Allah and his uncle's name was Obied-Allah. These names show the devotion that Mohammed's family had to the worship of their moon-god, Allah. When Mohammed proclaimed his new doctrine: "There is no God but Allah", he was not trying to introduce a new god, for his pagan countrymen already knew and acknowledged this pagan deity along with their other 359 gods. The crescent moon was an ancient pagan symbol used throughout the Middle East to represent Allah and adopting this symbol helped Muslims to convert people throughout the Middle East to Islam.
Mohammed was born in Mecca in 570 AD. In 610 AD he declared himself a prophet. At a temple called "ka’aba" in Mecca 360 idols along with a Black Stone were worshipped. Prior to Islam the people prayed each day facing Mecca since that was the place where their idol Allah was located. Each Arab tribe used "Allah" as a generic term to refer to its own particular high god. When Mohammed began propagating his new religion he was run out of Mecca in 622 AD. He then went to Medina where he successfully began his new religion, Islam, and even became the ruler of that city. In Mecca Arabs worshipped a moon-god called Hubal at their temple called Kabah. Hubal, being their highest ranking god, was also known by other names such as Allah. When Mohammed came along, he dropped all references to the name "Hubal" but retained the generic "al-ilah", which had been modified to Allah.
In 630 AD Mohammed again entered Mecca and captured it. He declared Allah to be the supreme god and was the one true god that all men should worship. Mohammed claimed to have had his "vision" and "revelation" from the angel Gabriel. Mohammed destroyed all the 360 idols at Mecca except the Black Stone, which they believed had come from the moon. Muslims continue to worship and kiss it today. Mohammed declared that Allah alone should be worshipped. He forbade the worship of the daughters of Allah. Mohammed retained almost all the pagan rituals of the Arabs at the temple, Kabah, and redefined them in monotheistic terms. To this day, a crescent moon can be found at the front of every mosque, acknowledging that Allah was and is still their moon-god.
Mohammed went one step further than his fellow pagan Arabs. While they believed that Allah, their moon-god, was the greatest of all gods and the supreme deity, Mohammed decided that Allah was not only the greatest god but the only god. The worship of the moon-god, Allah, helped Islam to be successful in propagating their religion among the Arab nations. Allah was neither an unknown nor an unimportant god to the Quraish when Mohammed began preaching his doctrine at Medina and Mecca. The fact that Islam was conceived in idolatry is shown by the many rituals performed today in the name of Allah which were connected with their pagan worship that existed before Islam.
The crescent moon, as the symbol for Islam originated when Allah was worshipped as the moon-god in Mecca, is placed on the flags of Islamic nations and on the top of mosques and minarets and displayed on hats, flags, rugs, amulets and even jewelry. This explains why the crescent moon is the symbol of Islam today. Some flags of Muslim countries have the full moon placed inside the crescent moon to emphasize all the phases of the moon. Other flags have one or more stars or the sun placed in the crescent of the moon.
Many people have been falsely taught that Allah is simply another name for the God of the Bible. This is not true. This is stated to try and give Islam some credibility. Satan has used this lie to lead people away from the one true God so they will be eternally lost. This lie is believed not only by Muslims but also by many non-Muslims. History reveals that Islam is nothing more than a reformed revival of the ancient idolatrous moon-god paganism. Most Muslims have been kept in the dark concerning the history of their religion. The average Muslim does not know he is worshipping a moon-god or why the crescent moon sits on top of his mosque.

"Are There Legitimate Reasons To Miss Worship Services?"
This question has been asked and answered in various ways. In attempting to answer the above question we should caution readers to steer clear of looking for reasons to miss services and diligently strive to enter into the service of the Master in every way that we may.
The Hebrews 10:25 Key
“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Heb. 10:25, NKJV).
It is clear that our love to God often works in our love displayed to our brethren. Hence the consideration of one another to stir up love and good works ought to stem from our love for God and desire to worship regularly with Christians (cf. Heb. 10:24; 1 Cor. 13:5; 1 Jn. 3:16-18). The fundamental flaw addressed in Hebrews 10:25 provides the key in unlocking the answer to our question. The “not forsaking” addresses the action of “abandoning” the gatherings of the saints. It is to neglect and leave in the straights so to speak. Demas forsook Paul because he loved the present world (2 Tim. 4:10). Though persecuted, Paul recognized that he was not forsaken by God (2 Cor. 4:9).
While abandoning would require missing services, missing services does not equate neglect and abandonment. For example, who would question Paul’s desire to be with brethren and work actively in service to the Lord? He would often stay with churches for seven days to work with them (cf. Acts 20:6; 21:3, 4; 28:13, 14). Yet he was clearly not forsaking any service when he was caught up in the tempest Euroclydon (a hurricane) in the Adriatic Sea for 14 nights (Acts 27:27). It is clear that he “missed” the services of the church, but it is equally clear that it was beyond his control.
The Schoolmaster’s Example
Likewise, even in the Old Testament schoolmaster we find this type of concession when some were not able to partake of the Lord’s Passover due to the peril of travel or the defilement of touching something unclean (Num. 9:1-14). These were considered valid reasons to God. However, the reckless abandonment of the Passover carried with it the penalty of death and the burden of bearing sin, “But the man who is clean and is not on a journey, and ceases to keep the Passover, that same person shall be cut off from among his people, because he did not bring the offering of the LORD at its appointed time; that man shall bear his sin” (Num. 9:13). “Cut off” is language denoting death (Gen. 9:11). This parallels the strong condemnation against those who forsake the assembling of ourselves today, showing that they no longer have the forgiveness of sins and have trampled over the Son of God, profaned the blood He shed and insulted the Holy Spirit Who revealed these things to us (Heb. 10:26-29). God is no less strict today. If the mere manner of partaking of the Lord’s Table can make us spiritually dead, then obviously the willful neglect of worship assembly would make us equally condemned (1 Cor. 11:27-30).
There are at times valid and proverbial “oxen in the ditch” that would prohibit our abilities to worship at times (Lk. 14:5). However, those who take lightly the importance of worship services commit sin that is insulting the God of heaven. Staying home to watch the Super Bowl at the expense going to worship, going on vacations away from sound churches, practicing Sunday sickness and Monday wellness, placing any personal ambition above services, leaving the church, etc., is only heaping the coals of unquenchable hell fire upon their future. The solemn words of Paul come to mind, “Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He” (1 Cor. 10:22).
What About Midweek Services?
Some think that only Sunday is important and midweek can be discarded at will. There are a host of sins committed when any act of congregational worship is neglected by the members of Christ's body. To mention a few, we commit the sin of omitting the good that should have been done (Jas. 4:17). We do not do our share of the work (Eph. 4:15, 16). We bring discouragement upon the brethren rather than stirring them up for good works (Heb. 10:24). We violate seeking first the kingdom of God (Matt. 6:33). We do not imitate the example of Paul who above so many things had on his mind daily, the concern and welfare of the church (1 Cor. 11:1; 2 Cor. 11:28; Phil. 3:8). Some Questions: 1. Does my attendance-record reflect the attitude of the merchant who sold all to buy the pearl of great price (Matt. 13:45, 46)? 2. Would we expect to hear the words “well done good and faithful servant” if Jesus decided to come back when we decided to not attend the services of the church (Matt. 25:21)? 3. When I choose not to come for selfish/personal gain, how am I imitating the example of Paul? 4. Was it easier for Jesus to go to the cross, suffer and die to build the church than for me to be an active member of the “assembling of ourselves together”? by: Steven J. Wallace

REMEMBER THE BANANA – When it left the bunch, it got skinned.

J O H N W. M O O R E BUILDING ON JESUS

The existence and permanence of any edifice is dependent upon the strength of its foundation. Building on an inferior foundation can cause damage to a structure and even bring about its ruin. When erecting a building, the architect, engineer, and builder must be careful to build upon on the right foundation. Ministers, pastors, teachers, and parents should all consider themselves builders of churches and immortal souls. As we seek to build, we must be careful how we build and what we build upon. In the first Corinthian letter, the Apostle Paul warned the church not to build upon the notoriety or wisdom of men (I Corinthians 2:5-3:23). Instead, he pronounced that a building must be constructed on the foundation of Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 3:11). Any other foundation will crumble over time and eventually be destroyed forever. Building on the foundation of Jesus demands that we begin with His grace for the hope of our salvation, His life as a model for ours, and His doctrine as a creed for our church. At the Dripping Springs church of Christ, we are seeking to build the church on the rock solid foundation of Jesus. Come build with us as we prepare for eternity.
J O H N W. M O O R E CAN THINGS BE BETTER?

“It’s just like my heart is being ripped from my chest and then stepped on every time we fight. I’ve never hurt so badly before. How can someone who promised to love me forever say such degrading things to me? I feel so lost, so miserable, so dejected! Our home is broken and it needs to be fixed. I worry about our children, their future, and our future. I so desperately want things to be better. I want to be happy and alive again. I want us to be whole. We need help. I need help. Our family needs help. Can things be better?”

Have you ever felt this way about your family or your marriage, or know of someone who has? Occasionally I hear or read about troubled homes, and have compassion for those who are hurting because of conflict. Some situations are quite desperate and differences seem almost irreconcilable. Others, while not at the brink of disaster, merely exist with each family member leading quiet but separate lives, all the while living under the same roof. Still others, while generally satisfied with their marriage and home life, may at times find themselves struggling to make the relationships grow and thrive. Indeed, many are wondering if things can be better.

I want you to know that not only can things become better - they can become great when Christ Jesus is in your home. Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus of Nazareth entered into the troubled homes of Palestinian Jews who were struggling with the pressures and worries of life. Some were struggling because of illness (Mark 1:29-31), some because of familial conflict (Luke 10:38-42), and others because of sin (Luke 19:1-10). In all three cases Jesus left these homes better than He found them. In the modern world the healing power of the Lord’s Word and the memory of His compassionate life can also leave our homes better than they have been. When Jesus enters a home and its members embrace His life and His teachings, that home will be happier, fuller, finer, complete, and most assuredly better.

Reputation is made in a moment: Character is built in a lifetime.

My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live. Job 27:6

Remember Grandma? Grandma used to get up on Sunday morning before daylight, cook a big breakfast for her large family, milk three or four cows, churn, clean house, kill and dress a couple of chickens so the visiting preacher could have his favorite “Gospel bird” for dinner, bathe and dress the kids, then go with the family is a wagon five miles to the meeting house and get there early for Bible Study and worship. And all this was done without much complaint or criticism. And Grandma rarely ever complained if the preacher went overtime with his lesson. You see, even with her busy schedule, she wanted to take time to be holy. Today, breakfast comes in a cereal box, the store provides the milk and butter, “Colonel Sanders” prepares the chicken, and the distance to the church building is often measured in blocks instead of miles and can be driven in modern, air conditioned (or heated) cars. Yet, some folks just can’t make it to Bible Study. Now, I wonder why? HinBullt--- “But seek ye first the kingdom of God…” (Matt. 6:33)
