Billy retired (for the second time) on 9/7/2025 after 11 years as pastor of Grace Community Church. On 9/14/2025, Billy and his wife, Cheryl, were honored by the church with a special service and dinner following (attached are a few pictures of Billy and Cheryl at the dinner).
Billy was persuaded to come out of retirement to take on the pastorate in Tahoka in 2014. He and his wife had moved from Lamesa to Lubbock when they retired and purchased a home there, but agreed to take the pastorate if he could commute from Lubbock, which he faithfully did for 11 years. Everyone loves Billy's gentle demeanor, his great sense of humor, his knowledge of the Bible, and the great compassion he expressed to the hurting in his congregation and the community.
Before entering the ministry, Billy had an auction house with his father in Dumas. He continues to dabble in antiques and loves the "joy of the hunt" to find treasures at auctions and estate sales to fill his booth at an antique store in Lubbock. He often blessed the congregation on special holidays, as well as friends and neighbors with many of those great finds. He will be greatly missed, but Grace Community Church is blessed and happy to welcome and embrace Nicki Strickland as the new pastor.
