It is very difficult for folks to follow instructions. There are multiple reasons, including accessing the correct instructions, awareness, comprehension, willingness, ability, etc. How often have you pushed on a door clearly marked "pull?" Have you ever had trouble following instructions when assembling something? Why do people stay in the left lane when the law states that it is for passing only? Why do people not merge when they come upon the sign that says "merge now, state law?" Why do so many people believe that instructions or laws do not apply to them? Although such instances are of relatively minor import, they demonstrate a fault in applying rules that could one day lead to major consequences, not the least of which is having to answer to God at Judgement when he asks, "What did I tell you to do?"

It is very difficult for folks to follow instructions. There are mu...

How would this nation be different if every citizen obeyed the biblical instruction to "honor all men" (1 Pet 2:17)? How many cultural problems that fill the news and all media would be reduced or eliminated if we all treated one another, not just with respect, but with honor? The modern use of honor is generally related to military service which, though important, marginalizes the whole notion. The honor deficit reaches to the youngest ages. How many school teachers receive honor from their students? If we are not instilling honor in our children, what does the future portend?

"I complained of having no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet." Sometimes the whole world can be changed merely by the change in our paradigm. Reframing is the notion of changing the way a picture looks by changing the frame in which it is presented. Sometimes reframing our situations or our struggles helps us to get a new, more enlightened perspective of our experiences. It is mazing how changing nothing can change everything if we merely change our perspectives. Just as with Scripture, the context of our lives gives enhanced meaning to the events of our lives.

Many cultures are rooted in tradition and keep to the old ways. The United States was founded on leaving the old ways and heading to a "new world." We love the new and exciting and consider old things to be dull and outdated. That places us at a great disadvantage when we are called to the old paths. We unconsciously chafe under the old, not realizing that we are constantly seeking the new from a Bible that was completed over 2000 years ago. Our unconscious longing for the new means that we must consciously, purposefully seek the old paths. It is a hard road.

It is a profound paradox. If you try to be strong you will fail. If you accept being weak you will be strong (strengthened). The solution to every trial, every stressor, and every potential defeat is to not rest on your own strength, which is folly. After all, the enemy knows your weaknesses and he will not attack you where you believe you are strong. The battle is unfair to begin with, until you depend not on your strength, but on your strengthening. It is not something you do, it is something done to you, if you call upon God to be your strength. We don't like that because we do not want to seem weak. That is why accepting our own weakness is what opens to door to becoming empowered to overcome any trial or temptation.

Many believe that the United States has always been a religious country. In 1850, only about 34% of Americans attended church regularly. By 1960s, that number had grown to around 60%. The time of greatest growth in church membership occurred after World War II. In Europe wartime disillusionment led to a decline in Christianity, a trend still witnessed today. The difference in the impact of the war on religious involvement can be interpreted by the different perspectives of the outcome. Britain was geographically devastated by the war, while in the United Sates, we were largely physically insulated. The war was viewed as the classic good versus evil mindset, absent from subsequent military campaigns. What if there had been no World Wars? Would Christianity have grown in the US as it did in the post-war days? If not, what does that say about the growth that we did experience?

Isn't it ironic that Easter is almost universally observed in America, but that very few people live as if Jesus was actually resurrected from the dead? Isn't it ironic that you can go through aisles of Easter gifts, decor, and candy at the store, yet find nary a mention of Jesus or his victory over death? Isn't it ironic that many people will not be present at an Easter worship service to give honor to the Lord, because they are too busy seeking hidden eggs, supposedly in his name? Isn't it ironic that the most significant event in history, the first and only resurrection from and over death is celebrated by eating a chocolate bunny? Do you think God appreciates the irony?
