How can you still trust God when everything seems to be falling apart?

Job experienced unimaginable loss. His wealth disappeared, his children died, his health failed, and even his friends caused him to question what God was doing. Yet underneath all of his suffering was a hope that his circumstances could not take away: “I know that my Redeemer lives.”

Job’s faith wasn’t built on having a comfortable life, good health, or earthly success. His confidence rested in his Redeemer and the promise that even after death, he would be raised to life and see God.

That same hope is ours in Jesus. He was delivered up for our sins and raised for our justification. Because of His death and resurrection, God declares us righteous and promises that death will not have the final word.

Our circumstances will change. We will experience blessings and hardships we cannot understand. But Christ has already secured what we need most: forgiveness, a clean conscience before God, and the certain hope of everlasting life.

“For I know that my Redeemer lives.” Job 19:25

What do you do when sin weighs heavily on your conscience?

Gehazi saw an opportunity to enrich himself. His greed led to deception, lies, and hypocrisy, reminding us that sin often begins much deeper than what others can see. God knows not only our actions, but also the thoughts and motives of our hearts.

So when our own sins trouble us, we don't need to minimize them or try to justify ourselves. We can confess them honestly and then look to the peace God has already provided.

Jesus has already suffered and died for every sin. God does not require us to earn His favor or make a payment for His forgiveness. The full payment was made by His Son on the cross. In Baptism and Absolution, He gives that forgiveness freely and assures troubled consciences that they are clean in Christ.

And because we have freely received God's grace, we are free to show His love and generosity to the people around us.

This week, we are praying for all those who are starting school or have already begun a new school year.

“Dear Father in heaven, as we begin a new school year at Lutheran School, Evergreen Lutheran High School, Bethany Lutheran College, and Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary, we pray that You would bless the families, students, teachers, and staff; that You would grant knowledge and wisdom as we train, study, teach, and labor in our callings; and that we may grow in grace day by day as we learn more of You and Your love for us in Christ Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.”

You will see a new addition on campus this week. A memorial bench in memory and honor of Mr. Paul Silas Trapp was installed. We remember Paul as a kind, loving teacher and friend, whose greatest desire was for his students to know Jesus. A dedication of the bench will be held directly after the opening Chapel service (Tuesday, Sept. 1st at 9:00 am). All are welcome to join us for the Opening service and the dedication.
