Prelude

Call to Worship
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
Hear the good news of our faith.
At the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Shout to God, all the earth. Worship with gladness and joy.
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, but God demonstrates love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Come all you people, come to the gates of the Lord with thanksgiving.
Come to God's courts with praise.
Praise and bless God's name - rejoice before the Lord with song.
Say to God, "You are good! You are gracious! Your faithfulness lasts forever."
Let us worship the Lord!

*Opening Hymn: “He Lives” #285
*Prayer
*Passing the Peace (“The Peace of Christ be with you.”)

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession: God of hope and glory, through Christ hear our prayer and renew a right spirit within us. We confess that Christ came to create a new order, yet we continue to eagerly live in conflict. We can do our part for peace, for understanding, for justice around us. Help us to see opportunities to do our part and to take opportunities to do them whenever possible. Guide us to be our best through your Word and our deeds. We ask this in the name of Risen Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prelude

Call to Worship (adapted from Psalm 86)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness.
Give me an undivided heart, that I may respect your name.
I will praise, Lord my God, with all my heart.
I will glorify your name forever, for great is your love toward me.
You have delivered me from the depth, from the realm of death.
We give praise and thanks to God!
We do not live in separation from God; we are not heartless.
Putting on the new nature, created after the likeness of God,
Let us worship the Lord!

*Opening Hymn: “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” #497
*Prayer
*Passing the Peace (“The Peace of Christ be with you.”)

Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession: O God, we confess our sin and that we fall short of your glory. We are idle when we should be active. We listen to idle chat more than we listen to the gospel. When called to serve we have excuses rather an excitement, hesitate rather than are filled with the will to do what you ask. Help us to be mindful of how precious each moment is and be quick to fill them with actions of discipleship in response to your will. Guide us in study of your Word with enthusiasm and to share what we have learned with all our heart. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Statement of Faith (Nicene Creed) (insert)

This is the good news which we received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day; and that he appeared to Peter, then to the twelve and to many faithful witnesses. We believe he is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, he is our Lord and our God. Amen.

Prelude

Call to Worship (adapted from Psalm 8)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also, with you.
Lord, how majestic is your name in all the world!
You have set your glories in the heavens.
When I consider the heavens, the work of your fingers,
The moon and the stars that you have set in place
What are human beings that you care for them?
You have made them a little lower than the angels
You crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the world!
Let us worship the Lord!

*Opening Hymn: “Trust and Obey” #327
*Prayer
*Passing the Peace (“The Peace of Christ be with you.”)

Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession: Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior: if we call ourselves Christians, we are signs of your presence. Yet we confess that we sometimes hurt people through our pride, rather than showing the way to healing waters of your Spirit. When we are discouraged, we are unable to be signs of joy or hope or good news. Help us to serve all people with your love, your wisdom and your compassion to live as God, the Father, leads us. Forgive us and give us grace to be earthly reminders of your love. We ask this in your name, Amen.

Prelude

Call to worship (Psalm 104:31-35)
May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
May the LORD rejoice in God’s works — who looks on the earth and it trembles,
Who touches the mountains and they smoke.
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to God, for I rejoice in the LORD.
Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!
Let us worship the Lord, our God, who has sent us His Holy spirit.

*Opening Hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy” #86
*Prayer
*Passing the Peace (“The Peace of Christ be with you.”)

Call to confession
Prayer of confession
God of wind and flame, you pour out your Spirit on all your children, inspiring both the less fortunate and those who have plenty to tell of your greatness. We hear the sound and feel the heat, but instead of recognizing your presence among us, we dismiss you and refuse to believe that you speak through people we don’t choose to declare your message. Forgive us for silencing your Spirit. Silence our distrust and influence us with your Word. Help us to be your witnesses, those who break down dividing walls between people and appreciate the new community you make possible through the life and love of Jesus Christ. Come, Holy Spirit. (Time of Silent prayer) Amen.

Memorial Day Prayer
Memorial Day Prayer
Almighty God, Creator of the universe, how can we speak to you from our tiny existence? Except that you have called us to worship you in spirit and in truth; you have dignified us with loves and loyalties; you have lifted us up with your loving kindnesses. We sing with spirit and pray with courage because you have honored us; you have redeemed us from the lack of direction of life without you.

Lift the hearts of those for whom Memorial Day is not just a holiday, but painful memory and continued loss. Bless those whose dear ones have died needlessly, wastefully in accident or disaster. We remember with sympathy those who have died defending their people and those who died serving our country in wars past and present. We ask for your comfort of the families who are still dying in the service of our country.

We believe the promise when Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Guard brave soldiers, men and women who risk themselves in battle for our country. Keep them from hate that hardens, or from scorekeeping with human lives. Though they must be soldiers of war, let them live for peace, as eager for agreement as for victory. All this we ask in the name of your Son who is our Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
