Hello EBC Community,

It has been brought to our attention that several people within the church community have received an email this morning from an account that appears to be Pastor Heidi, but is not actually the email address she uses. This is, unfortunately, a common scam used to trick people into buying gift cards, thinking they’re helping their pastor and church.

If you received an email this morning with a vague request that seemed like it was from Pastor Heidi, please report the email as spam/phishing and delete it. Do not respond to it, and do not purchase anything for the emailer.

For future reference: Pastor Heidi or other church leaders will NEVER email you asking for you to purchase gift cards or provide any other financial assistance. If you are ever suspicious of a message you have received, please reach out directly to the office or to Pastor Heidi.

It’s sad that people in our world try to take advantage of others, and that we have to be suspicious and on our guard about these things. Please be extra cautious and skeptical with any electronic communication, and keep yourselves and our community safe!

“David danced before the LORD with all his might…” (2 Samuel 6:14a)

We had a mighty time of dancing, celebration, and fellowship at our Oldies Dance Sock Hop on Saturday! Many thanks to DJ Joe Troiano for filling our night with joyful music. We are grateful for all who came out to raise money to support EBC’s ministry - and we hope to see even more of you there next time! 🎶

Resurrection makes itself known in ways big and small: in the joyous surprise of an empty tomb, in the stories of our faith that breathe new life into our spirits every time we read them… and in the gentle breeze of an afternoon warm enough to sit and read outside, especially after a brutal winter (and maybe a pastor’s post-Easter cold!).

Last Sunday we celebrated Christ’s resurrection on Easter morning, but that was only the beginning of a full season proclaiming God’s new life that enters our world again and again! Join us this Sunday for a special hymn-sing, where you can request your favorite songs as we together proclaim love’s victory over death.

This morning is bitter cold, but the heat is on in our building and our sanctuary is ready to welcome all to worship!

We are moving forward with our morning service as scheduled today, although we encourage anyone who doesn’t feel safe braving the cold to join us online from the comfort of home. For those who do make it in, we’ll be ready to warm you up with the love of our community, not to mention with delicious soup for our Soup-R-Sundae event following worship! Donations will benefit the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry.

Due to the weather forecast, our worship service for Sunday January 25th is canceled and the church will be closed. Our Annual Meeting and Fellowship Brunch will be postponed to next Sunday, February 1st.

Praying that all stay warm and safe during the storm! ❄️

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

Our world is full of signs of God’s love. Throughout the Advent season, we’ve been adding these symbols to our children’s table to remind ourselves to look for the signs of God’s gifts all around us: in the stories we tell, in our days of fun and play, at our tables, in our schools, homes, and communities. And this Sunday we added a heart, gifted to Pastor Heidi by members of the EBC community, which one of our little ones excitedly jumped up to add to the tree. We remember that we’re surrounded by love: of our friends and our families, of our church communities, of the things that bring us joy. And all of this comes from our God who is Love, who comes to be born to us again and again.

We hope to see you at 4pm and 7pm on Christmas Eve! Join us to bear witness and celebrate our God of hope, peace, joy, and love!

“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…’” (Luke 1:46-47)

For this third Sunday in Advent, as we heard Mary’s song of joy, Pastor Heidi and the children also heard the Grinch’s monologue of recognition that maybe Christmas means “a little bit more” than he thought. The sights and sounds of this season so often call us to celebrate the gifts, the decor, the food, the aesthetics… but the true joy of the season (and the joy in Mary’s song) is about that “more.” We rejoice because our God loves us enough to bless us, to live among us, and to choose us as instruments of justice and love in our world.

Blessings to all - may you feel Mary’s triumphant, expectant joy for all that God is doing even now.
