What a gift it was to preach at our home congregation Holy Trinity Lutheran Church - Buffalo, NY! Their namesake Sunday, it was also the final Sunday for Chapel and Chancel Choir leadership. The music was inspiring and the community, inviting. It was also special as our son and two others were recognized with a Thanksgiving for Senior Acolytes. Bonus photos from Synod Assembly worship. What a joy it was to celebrate a “mortgage burning” as a part of Pentecost 🔥 Sunday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church & Preschool West Seneca. Fire has the power to destroy and create - what is the new thing God is doing with you? Last week I had the gift of joining with Prince of Peace Lutheran, Fulton and experienced the joy of their faithful community. What a gift it is to experience the mosaic of ministry in the Upstate NY Synod!

Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has released a statement on the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

“As the ELCA, we must speak plainly: violence rooted in hatred is sin. We condemn Islamophobia and acknowledge its rise in recent years. Our church affirms that “anti-Muslim hatred is antithetical to our Christian faith” (A Declaration of the ELCA to the Muslim Community), for we are called to love our neighbor in ways that cast out fear (1 John 4:18).”

I had the opportunity to join the saints of Transfiguration Lutheran Church, Rochester, who is preparing for a season of transition when Pr. Craig Swanson retires next month. I am so grateful for vital lay leaders and servant ministers who care for their community and congregation.
