I had the joy of joining with two of our northern most congregations, Evangelical Lutheran Church, LaFargeville, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Redwood, within miles of the 1,000 Islands. Preaching into their sermon series in 2 Timothy I proclaimed God’s grace which activates us to fulfill Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream. First time quoting from MLK in addition to Dolly Parton and Tim Curry in a sermon! Thanks to the ministry of Pr. Rachel Roberts, our UCC partner in this collaboration. By the evening I was with the Crossroads Conference for a youth event with at least five congregations present plus ecumenical partners. What a great night!

I am Grateful. Grateful for two-months of sabbatical granted by our Synod Council. Grateful to the congregations and lay and rostered ministers for your care for the church and one another. Grateful for our synod staff and team members for their continued leadership. Grateful to my family for a time to reconnect. Grateful for the 12 books read and one-hundred pages written for my Doctor of Ministry project. Grateful. Today I am also grateful for the ordination of the Reverend Jessica Nipp, called to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Skaneateles New York, and look forward to reconnecting with staff and leaders across the Upstate NY Synod over the next week or so and then when I am fully back to the office in September. What a gift. What grace. Thanks be to God!

What a gift it was to preach at our home congregation Holy Trinity Lutheran Church - Buffalo, NY! Their namesake Sunday, it was also the final Sunday for Chapel and Chancel Choir leadership. The music was inspiring and the community, inviting. It was also special as our son and two others were recognized with a Thanksgiving for Senior Acolytes. Bonus photos from Synod Assembly worship. What a joy it was to celebrate a “mortgage burning” as a part of Pentecost 🔥 Sunday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church & Preschool West Seneca. Fire has the power to destroy and create - what is the new thing God is doing with you? Last week I had the gift of joining with Prince of Peace Lutheran, Fulton and experienced the joy of their faithful community. What a gift it is to experience the mosaic of ministry in the Upstate NY Synod!
