WE gathered in faith, reflection, and remembrance for our Candlelight Service, a sacred time to shine a LIGHT of hope,

We were truly blessed by our guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Daren Jaime of People's AME Zion Church, Syracuse NY, who delivered the powerful message, “Walk It Out,” from Isaiah 50:10.

A special thank you to The People’s AME Zion Church Music Ministry for blessing us through song and worship.

We also extend a HUGE thank you to our Missionary Department for their hard work and dedication, and to Sis. Tyra Wren, who truly blessed us through the beauty of dance.

Even when the way is dark and we cannot see clearly, we are reminded to trust God and KEEP WALKING.

💜 WE CAME TOGETHER. WE LEARNED. WE SPOKE. WE LISTENED. WE CARED.

Southern Missionary Baptist Church was honored to host an important Overdose & Addiction Awareness Night, and what happened in the room was bigger than a program, it was a conversation our community needs to keep having.

With a tremendous turnout, our church became a space for education, honest testimony, real-life experiences, and hope.

We heard powerful information from professionals on the front lines of addiction and overdose response, including:

👏 Ms. Lisa Dunn Alford CEO and her team at ACR Health
👏 Mr. Gilyard, Onondaga County Health Department
👏 Dr. Agatha Tweedy, ER Physician at Crouse Hospital
👏 Mr. Chuck Clinger and Marsha Merriweather, Crouse Addiction Services
👏 Dr. Bill C. Hines, Syracuse Community Health Center

Our evening included **testimonies, addiction and overdose education, and Narcan training equipping people with knowledge that can potentially save a life.

🟣 Narcan reverses opioid overdose.

Most importantly, we were reminded that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story.

This conversation doesn't end when the event is over.

We must continue to educate, support, encourage, and reach those affected by addiction.

To every speaker, partner, volunteer, attendee, and person who had the courage to share their story, and to the brave and blessed Tomushunas family THANK YOU.

And to everyone who came out: your presence mattered. ❤️

Our Southern Missionary Baptist Church Senior Lunch was filled with joyful conversations, delicious food, plenty of smiles, and moments that reminded us just how special our community family truly is. 🥰

🏆 Congratulations to everyone who won a raffle prize! Your excitement made the celebration even more memorable. And to everyone who joined us, THANK YOU for making this gathering so special. We are blessed by the service from our WONDERFUL SMBC volunteers who make this happen EVERY 2ND and 4TH Friday. AND a HUGE thank you to PEACE, Inc. for your partnership and creating such an awesome experience.
