Sylvania Classic Main Street Downtown Development Authority Sylvania Classic Main Street was created to promote growth and foster business development in downtown Sylvania, GA.

Through a variety of projects and fundraisers throughout the year, operating a local art gallery, and overseeing a local facade grant program, Sylvania Classic Main Street strives to maintain the appearance of downtown Sylvania and encourage citizens to support local businesses.

The Classic Main Street and the Sylvania Junior Woman's Club sponsored the 2018 Western Wear Contest after the parade on Saturday, March 31st, around the downtown fountain. Winners were age 0 to 2: Calli LeMaster and McAlister Knight; age 3 to 4: Tony Grace and Caroline Bazemore; age 5 to 6: Samuel Bazemore and Lilah McAfee; age 7 and up: tie for first Sam Grace and Lilly McAfee. Others having fun during the contest were Reese Patrick, Maggie Robyn Reddick, Kinsleigh Brown, Violet Royal, Lynnlee Bragg, Jenkins Reddick, Ian Scott, Elle Gentry and Megan Borges. Scenes from the contest are shown here. Judges were 2018 Festival Queen Savannah Lariscy, 2017 Queen Ansley Dirst and 2018 pageant runner-up Alana Milner.

Footprints on the Sands of Time V was presented Thursday, November 2, 2017 in the Sylvania City Cemetery. It was a wonderful program and the Downtown Development Authority thanks all those who served as characters, wrote stories and helped in any way. Anyone who did not attend missed a great evening. PLEASE JOIN us at the Soda Shop Gallery for a reading and book signing by Mel (Larry Gordon's brother) and Joan Gordon on Thursday, November 16th, from four until six o'clock. After over four years of research, they have authored "Pulaski: The Forgotten Hero", an action-packed historical novel set in eighteenth century Europe and America. It follows Casimir Pulaski from birth through the wars and battles he fought in Poland and America. The Gordons have also had book signings in New York, Savannah and Atlanta.

The Twelfth Annual Golden Coke Awards program was held Wednesday, August 30, at the Soda Shop Gallery in downtown Sylvania. A Favorite Vacation theme was followed with volunteers and board members dressed for the beach, Mexico, Hollywood and Niagara Falls. Hot dogs and trimmings were served, followed by ice cream sundaes. All received Golden Cokes and special awards were given to: Outstanding New Volunteer, LIbba Mills; Ever Ready, Brenda Winskey; Weekend Warrior, Gus Bazemore; Best Scheduler Ever, Dee Gurka; Board Member of the Year, Ann Tanner and Mr. Green Jeans Award: Preston Dees. Those attending played a special game of Bingo, arranged and led by Dee Gurka.
