Update from SIT General

For almost two years, the Christian community in Gaza has lived through a reality of extreme suffering, marked by bombings, a total lack of basic necessities, and the constant fear of losing everything.

The neighborhood of Zeitoun, where the Parish of the Holy Family is located, has become one of the few refuges for both displaced Christians and Muslims. There, hundreds of people live crowded together under roofs that tremble every time a bomb falls nearby. More than 50 faithful have died since the beginning of the conflict—among them, the chronically ill, elderly people without medicine, women, and children who were unable to flee.

Food and water have become luxury items. A kilo of sugar costs an outrageous amount, and many families go days without enough to eat. The churches have become what little hope remains, serving as shelters, improvised kitchens, and the only points of humanitarian aid.

Beyond the physical pain, there is an enormous psychological burden: the uncertainty of tomorrow, the emotional exhaustion of children, the anguish of knowing that prayer alone is no longer enough to stop the destruction. Yet even in the midst of this darkness, faith endures—priests, religious sisters, and the faithful continue to celebrate Mass, to pray, and to care for one another.

For many, the great question is no longer how to survive one more day, but whether this small Christian community can endure such continuous suffering without disappearing. They feel forgotten, ignored—but still, they keep the flame of hope alive.

Feast of Our Lady of Good Remedy
Co-Patroness of the Trinitarian Order and the Captives

Today we honor Mary, Our Lady Good Remedy, our beloved Mother who has always come to the aid of those in need of freedom and hope. In a time of need, She came to St. John de Matha and St. Felix of Valois to provide resources for the redemption of captives and works of mercy.

As we celebrate her feast, let us pray with the same faith as St. Felix:
“Mary, Mother of the Redeemer, enlighten us and give us wisdom, that we may bring comfort and freedom to those who suffer.”

May Our Lady of Good Remedy intercede for all Christians who endure persecution and captivity for their faith.
May she bless us with the courage, compassion, and resources to set God’s children free from hatred and oppression.

Our Lady of Good Remedy, Comfort of the Captives—pray for us!

VENERABLE THOMAS OF THE VIRGIN (1587-1647)
Spanish Trinitarian religious man who stood out for his virtues after spending forty years in bed, whom I propose as a model for those who suffer from any kind of illness, especially diseases of paralysis or dystrophy.

During that time, he never lamented and, so much was his strength, that he was sought as a spiritual advisor by the most important political and religious figures of the 17th century, including kings and popes.

Pius VII approved his virtues in a heroic degree and declared it Venerable. His remains are currently venerated in the Church of the Holy Trinity in Valdepeñas, where the bed in which he spent the last forty years of life is preserved as a relic.

Today we celebrate the memory of St. Francis of Assisi, the poor man who, with his simple life and burning love for Christ, transformed the heart of the Church and the world.

On this day, we also remember with gratitude the beautiful bond that unites Franciscans and Trinitarians, for it was precisely the Trinitarian Order that presented Francis to Pope Innocent III to obtain the approval of his emerging fraternity. This brotherly gesture sealed a spiritual alliance between two deeply evangelical charismas: liberation and peace, service to the captive, and embracing the poor.

As in that frame of the abside of St. John of Letran, where the Pope is represented receiving together St. John of Mata and St. Francis, today we also want to welcome that spirit of communion that united them: the desire to renew religious life and the Church from the Gospel.

May the intercession of St. Francis of Assisi inspire us to live with joy, humility and fraternity the gift of our Trinitarian vocation.

🕊️ “Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. ”

Today the Trinitarian family honors the life of San Simon de Rojas. Known as the "Apostle of the Ave Maria," San Simon was a Spanish Trinitarian born in Valladolid (Castile, Spain) on October 28, 1552. He entered the order at age 12 and began his studies for the preisthood. During his life he maintained an unwavering devotion to Mary and to the poor. He served as confessor to the Royal Family and used his influence to open a soup kitchen, which has been in operation for over 400 years. St. John Paul II canonized San Simon in 1988.
