Wishing Many Years! 🎉 to Most Reverend Kurt Burnette, Bishop of Passaic, on the occasion of his birthday!

Mnohaja i blahaja l’ita, Vladyko!

Bishop Kurt was ordained a priest at Proto-Cathedral of St. Mary in Sherman Oaks, California, for the Eparchy of the Holy Protection of Mary in Phoenix (Eparchy of Phoenix) on April 26, 1989 by the late Bishop John Bilock. He would later be enthroned in 2013 as the fifth bishop of the Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Passaic. This December will mark the 10th Anniversary of the Consecration of Bishop Kurt and his installation as the fifth Bishop of Passaic.

Fun Fact: The name “Kurt” is of Germanic origin and means “wise counsel.” How fitting for His Grace!

February 24, 2022. One year ago with the invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces, the world witnessed in real time, a repeat of history. In this aggression, we have seen that distortions of truth, whether delusional or intentional, always have wide ranging consequences upon innocent lives. The counterbalance to evil seems counterintuitive by worldly standards, but Jesus is very clear in his teachings. Prayer and fasting are the two methods he reminded the apostles are the effective means of casting out certain demons. Lent or the Great Fast, which started quietly on Monday, February 20th for Byzantine (Eastern rite) Catholics, is a time for prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. In a sense, the people of Ukraine have been living an actual Lenten experience daily over the past year. Let us unite with them during this Lent. As Americans, we cannot imagine what it is like having war in place on one’s own soil. Yet, life goes on for those in Ukraine, even with the possibility of destruction and end of life anywhere at any time. Let us pray and fast more urgently for world peace and for leaders of all nations. Because the future rests in our united effort, and in relationship with God, who at the end of all “Lents”, is victoriously triumphant. See Prayers for Ukraine and End of War:

Beneath your compassion, we take refuge, Oh Virgin Theotokos. Despise not our prayers in our needs, But deliver us from dangers. For you alone are pure, and blessed. _______________________________…
