Walk Worthy, Glorify Him

A Christian should be more concerned with the development of personal character, growing in grace, maturing in the faith, and the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit, than engaging in a ministry of activities, however valuable it may seem to us or to others. The latter can only flow from the former.

The gracious attitude and godly conduct of a believer is of more significance to our Heavenly Father than the good works that we carry out for Him. God is more concerned with who we are than with what we do. Oh! God has prepared good works for all His children, but they can only be carried out profitably in the one who is walking in spirit and truth, trusting the Lord wholeheartedly, and not relying on their own understanding.

Paul's challenge to the believers at Thessalonica was to walk worthy of God's call on their lives. He urged them to live in a manner that was worthy of God, Who calls each one of us into His kingdom and glory. The message Paul taught, combined with his own personal life~style, was a living example of a worthy walk before God. Paul exemplified a man living to honour the Lord and reflecting the character of God.

Just as we can never fulfil Christ's new commandment to love others as He loved us without His sufficient grace flowing through us in the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, so we are incapable of walking before God in a worthy manner without the enabling of His Spirit, through His sufficient strength.

We are all called into a life of holiness. We are commanded to live and move and have our being as a worthy witness to the Lord Jesus Christ, Who saves and sanctifies us. Our Christian walk should be the transparent evidence of a life, wholeheartedly surrendered to our God, both in the intent of our minds and the testimony of our deeds.

It is only when we are willing to admit that without Christ's sufficient strength we can do nothing, that He empowers us through the indwelling Spirit of Christ. It is only as we confess we can do nothing in our own strength that we receive the sufficient grace to walk worthily before Him. It is only as we understand that we can do all through Christ, because HE strengthens us, that we can walk in a manner that is worthy of God Who calls us into His own kingdom and glory.

Walking in a manner that is worthy of God is perhaps the highest calling to which those who have tasted of His gracious salvation can ascend. We have not only received forgiveness of sin and life everlasting through faith in Him, but have been called to be partakers of God's heavenly kingdom and received a share in His own glory, as heirs of God and joint~heirs with Christ!

We who were once living in the kingdom of darkness, enslaved to sin, and steeped in shame, have been forever transported into His kingdom of light and received life, grace, glory, forgiveness, and hope. How important that we should all walk in a manner worthy of our Father Who calls us into His own kingdom and glory, to the praise of His holy name.

Let us seek to walk in a manner that is worthy of our calling as children of God. May our personal character and conduct give honour to His holy name, for in His grace He has called us out of the kingdom of darkness into His own heavenly kingdom and glory. Praise His holy name.

God bless you all.

DAVID BISGROVE
No doubt you’ve heard the phrase “out of sight, out of mind.” Some- one who’s not around, whom you haven’t seen in a long time, doesn’t have much impact or relevance in your day-to-day life. The Bible tells us that after Jesus’s resurrection, he ascended into heaven, disappearing from view, out of sight. But we’re also told that because of where he now resides, we can be assured that he’s relevant in our daily lives.

So where is Jesus now? He’s seated at the right hand of God the Father. But what difference does that make to us in our day-to-day lives? First, it reminds us that Jesus rules over all creation. Psalm 110 paints a beautiful picture of God’s enemies as a footstool of Jesus as he sits at the Father’s right hand. Can you see the comfort of that in your daily life? When you struggle with discouragement or disappointment or bitterness about the way your life is going, or when you’re discouraged and angry about all the injustice and evil in the world, and like David in Psalm 37 you’re tempted to ask why the wicked seem to flourish, consider where Jesus is now. He’s at the right hand of God the Father. See him there. Enemies are his footstool. The One who conquered death is now ruling the world. Ephesians 1 says that Jesus was given all authority and will one day return and make the crooked places straight. So let where Jesus is now give you hope and courage to trust and follow him.

But there’s even more. Not only is Jesus the King who rules, but he is the Priest who intercedes. Hebrews 10 tells us that Jesus is the great High Priest, who on the cross offered himself as the ultimate sacrifice for sin. He is now interceding and praying for us at the Father’s right hand. He is our Advocate in every sense of that word. So to see Jesus at God’s right hand as our High Priest is to remember that there is no condemnation for our sin, that Jesus sacrificed himself so that we could be united with him. We have the full rights, therefore, as God’s children.

So, yes, Jesus is out of sight. We can’t physically see him. But he is active in our day-to-day lives and in this world at the right hand of God the Father ruling as our King, interceding as our Priest, and waiting to return, when he will wipe away every tear, beat swords into plowshares, and flood the world with his glory and grace.

Prayer
Risen and Ascended Lord, though you no longer walk this earth, you rule over us from your throne. All authority and power are in you. Your name is above all names. Raise us up at the last day to live with you in your kingdom. Amen.

Jesus Is Matchless

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

More and more I am becoming aware of the truth that people change people as much as ideas change people. The power of personality is strong. One could find many illustrations to prove that often personality is greater than the idea. Such is the case with Christianity. The secret of the power of Christianity is not in its ethics. It is not in Christian ideas or philosophy, although Christianity has a philosophical set of ideas. The secret of Christianity is found in a Person, and that Person is the Lord Jesus Christ. Men have discovered other philosophical and ethical systems, but they have not found another Jesus Christ. No one in history can match Him.

Prayer for the day

When I tell others of Your love, help me to hide my personality in Yours, Lord Jesus.

JESUS, You died upon a cross
And rose again to save the lost
Forgive me now of all my sin
Come be my Savior, Lord, and Friend
Change my life and make it new
And help me, Lord, to live for you

One in Christ

Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called "the uncircumcision" by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands--remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

For He Himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that He might create in Himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

And He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

For through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:11-22
