A Collect for the 25th Anniversary of September 11

God of steadfast love, who leads your people through the wilderness: Be with us as we look back across twenty-five years of remembrance, honoring the lives lost, comforting those who still grieve, and giving thanks for the courage that shone in the darkness. By your grace, heal our deep and lasting wounds, and lead us in the path of new life, in the company of your saints and angels; through Jesus Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Amen.

Join us this Sunday as we commemmorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001 with a special Holy Eucharist.

Please join us this Sunday as we celebrate in simplicity the service of Morning Prayer at All Saints' Church, Colorado City, 9 a.m. and at St. Stephen's Church, Sweetwater, 11 a.m. The service consists of beautiful music, scripture readings, and meaningful prayers. What a wonderful way to close out the month of August!

Our Scriptures for Sunday are these: The Old Testament -- Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 105:1-6, 23-36, 45b; The Epistle -- Romans 12:9-21; The Gospel: Matthew 16:21-28. These four readings remind us that God’s purposes pull us in surprising directions. We might have our own plans, but God’s caring for us goes beyond our thinking.

As school starts for many of us, we join in prayer -

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by your
Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn, that,
rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship
you and serve you from generation to generation; through
Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Reverend Jacob Edson Way will lead us in celebrating Eucharist this Sunday. In the Old Testament Lesson from Genesis 32:22-31 Jacob, seeking forgiveness from Esau, sends his family onwards. He remains alone and wrestles all night, obtaining a blessing from the One with Whom he wrestles; seeing God face to face. The Gospel reading from Matthew 14:13-21 relates Christ's compassionate feeding of the five thousand. “And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children” (Matthew 14:21). Our services are 9 a.m., All Saints' Church, and 11 a.m., St. Stephen's Church.

Sunday, July 26, 2026, is the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost, and everyone is invited to join us for Celebration of Holy Eucharist, led by the Reverend Edson Way. All Saints, Colorado City, 9 a.m. - St. Stephen's, Sweetwater, 11 a.m.

Sunday’s reading from the Epistle to the Romans (Romans 8:26-39) includes some of the most familiar and comforting words from Paul the Apostle –“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

From the gospel reading – “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches” (Matthew 13:31-32).
