2 Peter 3:17
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.
Today’s verse is part of Peter’s warning to believers to beware of false teachers and non-believers. Peter was most concerned about those who preached that judgment and Christ’s return were just a myth. Peter’s warning is just as relevant today, as it was at the time of the early church. Just as Peter told those early believers that they, had been forewarned, we too have been forewarned of the truth of Christs return and the judgment that is to come. The surest way of not being deceived by false teachers and non-believers is to be knowledgeable in the teaching of God’s word and be active in your faith and not passive. False teachings and spiritual deception are distortions of God’s word and are presented in ways that can be hard to pick up on because they contain partial truths and false wisdom. Always look to the Bible to verify if something that someone is trying to get you to believe is true or false.

Revelation 15:6
The seven angels who were holding the seven plagues came out of the Temple. They were clothed in spotless white linen with gold sashes across their chests.
The image described in today’s verse is rather somber as it shows seven angels departing God’s holy temple to carry out the seven final judgments. The number seven represents God’s complete and final judgment against evil. The white clothing symbolizes that they were especially picked by God for this mission, and the gold sash represented they had God’s authority. For believers today, they are assured that even though evil appears to be overcoming good, God is still in control and that the day is coming when God will eradicate all evil and evildoers from the world and restore His kingdom on earth.

Judges 13:16
“I will stay,” the angel of the Lord replied, “but I will not eat anything. However, you may prepare a burnt offering as a sacrifice to the Lord.” (Manoah didn’t realize it was the angel of the Lord.)
Today’s verse is part of a larger story surrounding the birth of Samson. This event took place during a dark period in Israel’s history, when the people were oppressed by the Philistines because they had once more turned away from God. Not realizing that his visitor was a messenger from God, Manoah honoring the custom of the day extends hospitality to his visitor. The reply of the angel is a reminder that we are not to call attention to ourselves because of our good deeds but to honor God.

1 John 4:18
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
In today’s verse, John reminds all believers that God’s perfect love leaves no room for the fear of punishment. He was writing to Christians who were facing confusion from false teachers and struggling with uncertainty about what genuine faith really looked like. To overcome that uncertainty, John reminds believers of the importance of focusing on the love God has for them. If our hearts are filled with fear, then we are still living as though we must earn God’s acceptance. But God’s love assures us that in Christ we are already saved. As we grow in knowing God’s nature, fear begins to lose its hold on us, and our trust in Him begins to grow.

Matthew 18:3
Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Jesus spoke the words in today’s verse right after the disciples asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” The purpose of this teaching was to remind His followers that God’s Kingdom does not belong to the proud or self-important, but to those who come with humble, trusting hearts. Just as a child depends on others, is trusting, and is willing to learn, Jesus is asking us if we fully trust in God or because of pride do we try to control every aspect of our lives? Only when we admit the need for God in our lives and admit our sins will the gates of heaven be open to us.

Psalm 29:11
The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
Today’s verse is a reminder that the God who rules with power also cares for His people with compassion. It assures believers that He does not abandon us to face life’s burdens and trials alone. Instead, He gives us the strength to endure what is difficult and the peace to rest in His presence. Even when circumstances feel uncertain, we can trust that God is steady, faithful, and near. His strength lifts us when we are weak, and His peace settles our minds and hearts when we are troubled.

Psalm 37:17
For the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.
Today’s verse comes from a Psalm that is known as a wisdom Psalm. Written by David, its purpose was to encourage believers to stand strong in their faith when evil and corrupt people seem to prosper while they suffer. Injustice has reared its ugly head throughout the ages, and when we look at what is happening in today’s society and see evil being rewarded, dishonesty celebrated, and faithfulness overlooked, it is easy to become discouraged. Today’s verse, however, reminds us that the success of the wicked is limited, and the power of God is eternal. He sees every wrong, knows every burden, and faithfully holds up those who trust in Him. While the wicked may avoid punishment in this life, we can be assured that they will face the ultimate punishment when they stand before God.

Obadiah 1:14
You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their fugitives, nor hand over their survivors in the day of their trouble.
Today’s verse is part of Obadiah’s message of the judgment God was going to hand down on the nation of Edom. Judah and Jerusalem were about to fall to the Babylonians, and many Israelites were trying to escape to avoid being captured by the Babylonians. Instead of helping them, the nation of Edom took advantage of their plight, even capturing them and turning them over to the Babylonians. In the end, God completely destroyed the nation of Edom because of their betrayal and rejoicing over the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem. Today’s verse is a reminder that “God pays attention to how we treat one another” and won’t tolerate those who rejoice because of the suffering of others. Instead, He wants His people to show compassion and mercy to those who are suffering and experiencing trouble in their lives.
