What a great day to be at New Shores! ❤️

We love the first Sunday of the month when we get to worship together as families—and this time, we got to celebrate a baptism! 🙌

Does it get any better?

One of our values is **Welcome to Family**, meaning we welcome people with hearts wide open.

We hope that’s what you experience when you walk through our doors. ❤️

We are SO excited to get Kids Connect started back up next Wednesday, September 9! 🙌 We’ve been looking forward to having our kids back together, learning about Jesus, building friendships, and having a ton of fun. Parents, get those kiddos ready—we can’t wait to see them! You can still register here: https://newshores.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/3794448

Don’t forget to turn in your bus permission slip to your teacher or the front office at the elementary!

For our YOUTH grades 6-12, we’re doing things a little differently this year. We will not be picking students up from the Junior High or High School, so those students will need to arrange their own transportation to church. Our doors will open at 5:30 PM, and youth programming will run from 6:00–7:30 PM. We’re excited about what God is going to do in the lives of our students this year, and we’re ready to get things rolling! 🔥

September 9 is coming fast—help us spread the word!

This Thursday morning, our community is invited to come together in prayer.

In light of the heartbreaking loss of Tristan Fath, we want to make space for our community to gather, to stand together, and to pray.

We’ll pray for Tristan’s family and friends, for students who are hurting, for teachers and administrators walking alongside them, and for our schools and community as a whole.

This isn’t about one church or one organization. It’s simply our community coming together in a difficult moment and asking God for comfort, strength, peace, and hope.

Thursday, September 3
7:00–7:30 AM
Sweeny Junior High School Flag Pole

Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, pastor, community member—or simply someone who wants to stand with those who are hurting—you are welcome.

When our community hurts, we pray together.

I’ve seen some of the conversation surrounding Netflix’s “Death of the Pastor’s Wife”, and I want to make something absolutely clear:

Do not confuse abusive leadership with biblical Christianity.

A pastor does not get a free pass because he stands behind a pulpit.

Using Scripture to control your spouse is not spiritual leadership.

Manipulation is not submission.

Intimidation is not headship.

Covering up sinful behavior to “protect the church” is not protecting the church.

And a pastor should NEVER have so much unchecked authority that nobody is allowed to question him, confront him, or hold him accountable.

At our church, we do not teach it.
We do not practice it.
We do not defend it.
And we will not use the Bible to excuse it.

Pastors are called to shepherd people, not control them. Husbands are commanded to love their wives sacrificially, not dominate them. Church leaders are supposed to be examples of humility, integrity, faithfulness, and self-control—not men who weaponize spiritual authority to get their way.

And hear me clearly:

When a pastor sins, the answer is not to protect the pastor at all costs. The answer is truth, accountability, repentance, and protecting the people God entrusted to the church.

There are plenty of things our culture gets wrong about Christianity.

But Christians should be the FIRST people willing to say that spiritual abuse, manipulation, coercion, and unchecked pastoral power have no place in the church of Jesus Christ.

We don’t have to defend everything done by someone carrying a Bible.

Sometimes the most Christian thing we can do is say:

That is wrong.
That is not what we believe.
And that is not how we will lead.

If you missed this one, you will definitely want to go back and tune in.

There are many things defining us-jobs, money, success, relationships, our past, what we see in the mirror, but there is only one Voice that should get to tell us who we are.

Christ defines who I am.Colossians 3:1-17
