September 25, 2022
16th Sunday After Pentecost
WELCOME

SCRIPTURE: 1 John 1: 5-7
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

HYMN: Trust and Obey #467
1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word, what a glory he sheds on our way! While we do his good will, he abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, but our toil he doth richly repay; not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross, but is blest if we trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
3. But we never can prove the delights of his love until all on the altar we lay; for the favor he shows, for the joy he bestows, are for them who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
4. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet, or we'll walk by his side in the way; what he says we will do, where he sends we will go; never fear, only trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

THE SERENITY PRAYER #459
God, grant me
The serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
Amen.

HYMN: Jesus Is All the World to Me #469
1. Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all; he is my strength from day to day, without him I would fall. When I am sad, to him I go, no other one can cheer me so; when I am sad, he makes me glad, he’s my friend.
2. Jesus is all the world to me, my friend in trials sore; I go to him for blessings, and he gives them o’er and o’er. He sends the sunshine and the rain, he sends the harvest’s golden grain; sunshine and rain, harvest of grain, he’s my friend.
3. Jesus is all the world to me, and true to him I’ll be; O how could I this friend deny, when he’s so true to me? Following him I know I’m right, he watches o’er me day and night, following him by day and night, he’s my friend.
4. Jesus is all the world to me, I want no better friend; I trust him now, I’ll trust him when life’s fleeting days shall end. Beautiful life with such a friend, beautiful life that has no end; eternal life, eternal joy, he’s my friend.

JOYS AND CONCERNS
PASTORAL PRAYER, LORD’S PRAYER

RESPONSE: Something Beautiful #394
Something beautiful, something good; all my confusion He understood; all I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife, but He made something beautiful of my life.

HYMN: ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus #462
1. 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, and to take him at his word; just to rest upon his promise, and to know, "Thus saith the Lord." Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I've proved him o'er and o'er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!
2. O how sweet to trust in Jesus, just to trust his cleansing blood; and in simple faith to plunge me neath the healing, cleansing flood! Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I've proved him o'er and o'er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!
3. Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus, just from sin and self to cease; just from Jesus simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I've proved him o'er and o'er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!
4. I’m so glad I learned to trust thee, precious Jesus, Savior, friend; and I know that thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I've proved him o'er and o'er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!

OFFERING PRAYER
Accept these gifts we offer, gracious God. We dedicate this offering to you, the giver of all good gifts, and pray that it would be a scattering of seeds in good and fertile soil. 14th Sunday After Pentecost
WELCOME

SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 8:11b-18
11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. 15 Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! 16 He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy. 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

12th Sunday After Pentecost
WELCOME

SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 1:15-17
15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 16 However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

HYMN: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise #103
1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice like mountains high soaring above thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3. To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.
4. Thou reignest in glory; thou dwellest in light; thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render: O help us to see 'tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We believe in God, who created our world and every living thing in it. Because all people in all places are God’s children, we believe they have the right to be treated with dignity. We believe in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to save us from our sins. We understand and believe that the power of His redeeming grace is available to all who seek it. As recipients of that grace, we also believe we are called to live out and share the good news of the gospel. We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to make all things new through God’s grace and love. As we are forgiven, so must we forgive others. We believe in the Triune God, who continues to create, wash us clean in the baptismal water and inspire and empower us to serve in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

HYMN: Pass It On #572
1. It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing. That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it; you spread his love to everyone; you want to pass it on.
2. What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding; the birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming. That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it; you want to sing, it’s fresh like spring, you want to pass it on.
3. I wish for you, my friend, this happiness that I’ve found; you can depend on him, it matters not where you’re bound. I’ll shout it from the mountain top; I want my world to know; the Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on.

Prayer of Confession, Assurance, and Pardon #891
Almighty and most merciful God,
We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep.
We have followed too much
The devices and desires of our own hearts.
We have offended against thy holy laws.
We have left undone
Those things which we ought to have done,
And we have done
Those things which we ought not to have done.
But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
Spare thou those, O God, who confess their faults
Restore thou those who are penitent,
According to thy promises declared in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And grant, O most merciful God, for his sake,
That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life;
To the glory of thy holy name. Amen.

If we confess our sins
God is faithful and just,
And will forgive our sins
And cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Thanks be to God.

HYMN: I Want a Principle Within #410
1. I want a principle within of watchful, godly fear, a sensibility of sin, a pain to feel it near. I want the first approach to feel of pride or wrong desire, to catch the wandering of my will, and quench the kindling fire.
2. From thee that I no more may stray, no more thy goodness grieve, grant me the filial awe, I pray, the tender conscience give. Quick as the apple of an eye, O God, my conscience make; awake my soul when sin is nigh, and keep it still awake.
3. Almighty God of truth and love, to me thy power impart; the mountain from my soul remove, the hardness from my heart. O may the least omission pain my reawakened soul, and drive me to that blood again, which makes the wounded whole.

LORD’S PRAYER

RESPONSE: Something Beautiful #394
Something beautiful, something good; all my confusion He understood; all I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife, but He made something beautiful of my life.

HYMN: Take Time to Be Holy #395
1. Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; abide in him always, and feed on his word. Make friends of God's children, help those who are weak, forgetting in nothing his blessing to seek.
2. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; spend much time in secret with Jesus alone. By looking to Jesus, like him thou shalt be; thy friends in thy conduct his likeness shall see.
3. Take time to be holy, let him be thy guide, and run not before him, whatever betide. In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord, and, looking to Jesus, still trust in his word.
4. Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul, each thought and each motive beneath his control. Thus led by his spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

OFFERING PRAYER
Accept these gifts we offer, gracious God. We dedicate this offering to you, the giver of all good gifts, and pray that it would be a scattering of seeds in good and fertile soil. Use both the work of our hands and the giving of our resources, so that the gospel may bloom and its roots grow deep, both in this place, and throughout the world. Amen.

DOXOLOGY: #95
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

CLOSING HYMN: Be Thou My Vision #451
1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, naught be all else to me, save that thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
2. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou and thou only, first in my heart, great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.
3. Great God of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

RESPONSE: ’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus #462 verse 4
I’m so glad I learned to trust thee, precious Jesus, Savior, friend; and I know that thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I've proved him o'er and o'er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!
