The Importance Of Truth
By Ed Bridegroom

The Bible emphasizes the importance of truth. In Proverbs 23:23 we read; “Buy the truth and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”

Jesus expresses the importance of truth in John 8:32; “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

I Peter 1:22 states ; “ Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.”

The entire word of God is truth. As Jesus prays for His disciples in John 17:17 He prays “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.”

The first 3 verses I mentioned emphasizes that obedience to God’s word determines the eternal destiny of a persons soul.
Proverbs 23:23, buy the truth and sell it not, a person must be diligent to obtain the truth of God’s word.
John 8:32, the truth shall make you free, free from the burden of sin.
I Peter 1:22, only when a person obeys the truth can their soul be purified.

Holding Forth The Word Of Life
By Ed Bridegroom

Philippians 2:15-16 reminds Christians of the value of their example that they present before the world.

Verse 15: “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”
Verse 16: “Holding forth the word of life, that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.”

We must be a guiding light to those who are not yet saved. The way that we can guide them to Jesus Christ is by holding forth the word of life.
The word of life is truth, only by obeying the truth can one be saved from their sins.

Jesus says in John 8:32; “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Obeying the truth sets us free from the bonds of sin. Jesus goes on to explain this in John 8:33-36.

I Peter 1:22 affirms the fact that when a person obeys the truth, they purify their soul.

Why not obey the truth and be saved from your sins?

1. By believing in God, Hebrews 11:6
2. By repenting of your sins, Luke 13:5
3. By confessing before others that you believe that Jesus is the son of God, Acts 8:37
4. By being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, Acts 2:38
5: By living faithful until life’s end, Revelation 2:10

The Lord Knows His Own
By Ed Bridegroom

Psalm 1:1-6 describes two ways that a person can choose to live their life.

People can choose to follow God and live Godly lives, or they can choose to ignore God and His ways.

Verse 6 reveals the outcome of a person’s choice.

In Psalm 1:6 we read; “For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”

We must choose to obey God and then after this life heaven will be our home.

Things That Everyone Should Know
By Ed Bridegroom

Did you know that everyone of us will stand before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and will be judged according to our deeds?

Consider Romans 14:10-12:
10: “But why dost thou judge thy brother? Or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgement seat of Christ.”
11: “For it is written, as I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
12: “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

II Corinthians 5:10 affirms the fact that we will be judged according to our deeds. Did you know that every person will be judged on the day of judgement at the end of the world?

Acts 17:31 affirms this fact; “Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead.”

Did you know that you must obey the gospel and live faithful until life’s end to be judged faithful and to inherit eternal life? Many believe that they will go to heaven solely because they live a good moral life. A Christian must live a good moral life, but they must also obey the gospel and continue to obey God’s commandments.

Jesus says in Matthew 7:21; “ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”

God’s will is that every person would obey the gospel. The gospel requires us to :
Believe in God , Hebrews 11:6
Repent of our sins, Luke 13:5
Confess before others that you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, Acts 8:37
Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, Acts 2:38
Live faithful until life’s end, Revelation 2:10

Is Thy Heart Right With God?
By Ed Bridegroom

This is an important question. The answer to this question will determine the eternal destiny of a persons soul. It is only natural for someone to believe that they are right with God. But how can a person know for sure?

The Bible reveals that man cannot rely on their own opinion.
In Proverbs 16:2 it says; “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.”

The only way to know for sure is whether or not that person obeyed God’s requirements to receive salvation.

The New Testament reveals what God requires for a person to be saved from their past sins.

1. A person must believe in God, Hebrews 11:6
2. A person must repent of their sins, Luke 13:5
3. A person must confess before others that they believe that Jesus is the Son of God, Acts 8:37
4. A person must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, Acts 2:38
5. A person must then remain faithful until life’s end, Revelation 2:10

Forgiving One Another
By Ed Bridegroom

Ephesians 4:32 says; “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted , forgiving one another, even as God for Christs sake hath forgiven you.”

This verse commands children of God that they must forgive others. After all God forgave them.

The word forgive comes from a Greek word and it means , to let go. The opposite of that is unforgiving, meaning to hold something against another. Sometimes there seems to be a struggle or a conflict with in the heart of a Christian. On the one hand God commands us to forgive, and that should always settle the matter. Unfortunately a person’s human nature sometimes causes a person to want to hold onto a grudge. That person must be willing to give up their pride and listen to God and Christ.

Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 6:14-15 that forgiving another person is not optional.
Verse 14: “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Verse 15: “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Trust In The Lord
By Ed Bridegroom

In Proverbs 3:5-7 we read:
Vs 5: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Vs 6: “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
Vs 7: “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.”

Anyone desiring to have a proper relationship with God, and someday go to heaven , can learn from the principles set forth in Proverbs and realize that the New Testament is the law we follow after Jesus nailed the old testament to the cross, according to Colossians 2:14. Furthermore we learn from Hebrews chapters 8,9,10 that we are no longer under the old law but are under the new law. If we desire salvation we must completely trust God. Faith and trust in God doesn’t stop at the point of a person merely believing that God exists. Complete trust and faith in God means that we also completely trust Gods word. We cannot lean unto our own understanding, that is we must trust and obey the word of God.

We cannot rely on our own opinions.

Proverbs 16:25 says; “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

The only way a person can know for sure that they are right with God is if they have obeyed the things that are commanded in the New Testament.

This Is For Your Own Good
By Ed Bridegroom

Have you ever heard these words?
Parents sometimes say this to their children before they discipline them. Many times the child does not fully understand these words at the time they are being disciplined. However as they grow older and look back, often they will come to understand that the discipline was done out of love and concern for their well being.

God, our Heavenly Father corrects His children for the same reason. That’s because He loves us and He wants us to be saved. Hebrews 12:6 reminds us of this truth; “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.”

Please read Hebrews 12:5-11 for the entire context.

Remember as we study God’s Word, If we find something that God requires us to change in our life, it is because He loves us.
God sent His only Begotten Son to earth to die for mans sins. John 3:16 & Romans 5:8.

To receive Gods grace on His terms, we must obey Him. Hebrews 5:9, I John 5:3, and Romans 6:17-18.

Sowing And Reaping
By Ed Bridegroom

In Galatians 6:7-8 we read; “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting.”

These verses remind us that there are only two ways a person can choose to live in the sight of God. A person can choose to live as he pleases and disregard God’s will, sowing to the flesh, however that way tragically leads to everlasting corruption. The opposite of that is the person who chooses to obey God and live faithful for the rest of their life. That person is one who is described as sowing to the spirit. That choice leads to life ever lasting.

The question that remains is what choice will you make for your life?
Choose wisely because your decision will determine the eternal destiny of your soul.
