ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK
What is a deaconess?

In Romans 16:1 Phoebe is referred to as a “servant” in the King James Version. The word translated “servant” is in some translated “deaconess” and that translation is noted in the margins of others. The Greek word is the feminine form of the word translated “deacon.” It is common to consider Phoebe as a deaconess. There is no doubt that Phoebe performed distinguished service for the saints at Cenchreae as evidenced by Paul’s commendation.

But, there is no reason to perform the service as one who held the office of a deacon. For one thing, she could not meet the qualifications. 1 Tim. 3:8-13.
Though the word is the same translated deacon, it is also used to indicate a person performing any kind of service. Given the service that she performed for the church, she was a servant of the church. There is neither need nor warrant to suppose that she occupied an official office in the church. She undoubtedly served in an area where her abilities and gracious spirit were needed.

ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Aren't your views on worship divisive?

To carry out the great commission is certainly one of the greatest tasks of the body of Christ. When thinking of acceptable scriptural worship, it's important to know whom it's acceptable to. It seems your question infers that worship is governed by what is acceptable to you. Jesus said if you love me, keep my commandments. Many would love and follow Jesus only if they could do worship and teach their own way. Let me say as kindly as I know how, but as forthrightly as it needs to be said, our likes and preferences may not be supported by scripture. It's not those who hold to the apostolic teaching and practice that are divisive but, those who do not follow the pattern of worship found in the New Testament.

There is no dispute that the apostolic church (the church of the New Testament) did not use mechanical instruments of music in worship. (Ephesians 5:19) Its introduction was a change of apostolic practice. There is no doubt that the New Testament church partook of the Lord's Supper each and every first day of the week when they gathered for worship. (Acts 20:7) They also gave of their means as they had prospered. (1 Corinthians 16:1&2) Examples of prayer, preaching, and teaching during worship is throughout the New Testament.

Many worship services are nothing more than entertainment shows designed for and to keep an audience interested. Because of this, many have elevated their own "likes" above the will of God. Many today think if it makes you happy, it makes God happy and it's no big deal.

Uzzah in the Old Testament , thought it was a trivial thing to touch the ark; God did not agree and Uzzah died. Nadab and Abihu thought it was a trivial thing to offer “strange fire” upon the altar of God; God did not agree and they died. Are you willing to risk your eternal soul by changing what God desires in worship because you think it is trivial? What if once more God does not agree?

There is a way to worship God that Jesus says He accepts. It is worship that is offered in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)
