“He has delivered us from such a terrible death, and he will deliver us. We have put our hope in him that he will deliver us again while you join in helping us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gift that came to us through the prayers of many.”
2 Corinthians 1:10-11
A thought on prayer: Prayer is not only a direct avenue to worship, it is an opportunity to become more conscious of the glorious works of God. When we pray for God to move, and he does, it gives reason for praise. When we pray for God to move, and he doesn’t, that creates more reason for prayer. Both draw us closer to Christ.
James says this: “But let him ask in faith without doubting.” So let us approach prayer humbly, but expectantly. Truly wanting, but never demanding.
James also says: You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Our prayer needs to be centered around. God will over our own. From the perspective of being a pastor, it’s often easier. I want our congregation to thrive, to grow in grace and love. I want the other leaders in our church to have patience, passion and to pursue God‘s calling in their life.
On a personal level is when it tends to become difficult. When it comes to praying for oneself, it’s much easier to get caught up in your desires. Especially when God calls you to challenging tasks.
But I think the message is clear and consistent. Lastly, James says “God resists the proud
but gives grace to the humble.
Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
If we wish to be close to God, and to be in His will, we must submit to who is good, flee from that which is evil, and draw near to God. One of the core components of our relationship with God is our communication to him through prayer. Let us neither neglect nor under appreciate the fact that we get a direct line with the creator God of the universe, Jesus.
Have a blessed day, and don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us Pastors here at New Discovery Baptist Church if there’s anything we can do to help.
