Subject: Stand with Trangender Individuals and Families
I am a Presbyterian Minister serving three rural congregations in Northern Wisconsin. Several families in my churches have relatives who are Trangender, and our biblical beliefs maintain they are created by God, loved by God, and full members of God's household of faiths.
I myself identify as female, but if an individual I am serving views me as Priest (male) or a stand-in for their image of God as a father-figure, I am happy to be Male in their eyes. Every human being has a Feminine side and a Masculine side. Even the most "macho' of men have a feminine side and most "lady-like" of women have a masculine side. We are all--male and female, gay, le***an, bisexual, and transgender -- made in the divine image of God.
As a committed Presbyterian, I am deeply concerned about the direction our country is taking in its treatment of transgender and genderqueer individuals. Transgender people face higher rates of discrimination and violence, and on this Transgender Day of Visibility, I urge you to take action to protect their rights.
Recent legislative proposals threaten the rights of transgender individuals, including access to healthcare, protection from discrimination, and the ability to live authentically. Laws that restrict gender-affirming care or erase transgender people from public life will harm those who already face significant struggles. These policies undermine their basic dignity and freedom.
As a Presbyterian, I am called to stand with the marginalized. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) affirms the dignity of all people, including transgender individuals, grounded in Scripture. In Galatians 3:28, we are reminded, "There is no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free, male and female; for all are one in Christ Jesus."
On t his important day, I urge you to:
1. Oppose legislation that restricts transgender rights.
2. Support policies that affirm transgender people's right to live authentically, including access to gender-affirming healthcare and protection from discrimination.
3. Advocate for justice and inclusion for transgender families.
May our policies reflect the love of God for all people. Please oppose harmful legislation and executive actions to work toward a nation that promotes gender equity and justice.
