On Pentecost, we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit into the world and mark the end of the long Easter season. We hope you'll celebrate with us here at St. Anthony, Superior!

There's an expression in the sport of soccer: "going for glory." In short, it means to score some kind of stupendous, spectacular goal, usually leading to your teammates hoisting you on their shoulders and carrying you off the field.

In other sports, "glory" means something similar: catching the winning touchdown, hitting a grand slam, getting a hole in one. Think big, dramatic, and spectacular.

But in today's Gospel, Jesus offers us a different image of glory: doing what you have been asked to do. If we apply this to sports, our definition of glorious plays expands, including everything from a basic block in football to a well-executed bounce pass in basketball.

This is important for us to remember in our spiritual lives. Giving God glory doesn't necessarily mean accomplishing dramatic feats. In fact, focusing on grandiose achievements can actually distract us from seeking true glory: fidelity to God in every moment of the day.

So, St. Anthony, Superior family, let's glorify God today. First by worshiping him at Mass, and then by being faithful to him throughout the rest of the day.

When you think about it, Jesus' final instructions are pretty daunting: carry on the mission of God incarnate; the mission of one who can walk on water, command the seas, heal the sick, drive out demons, and who literally just rose from the dead.

You and I are not Jesus. And thus, being asked to carry forth Christ's mission of proclaiming the good news can seem impossible, especially when we consider where it led him: to the cross.

But the last part of today's reading is the kicker. Because Jesus doesn't send us out alone. In fact, he tells us that he will be with us "to the end of the age." And he is: through the sacraments, prayer, and community of the Church.

Yes, St. Anthony, Superior family, Jesus asks big things of us. But he asks us precisely because he is with us; a presence that makes all the difference. So as we celebrate the Ascension, let's prayerfully consider how we can respond to the call to be missionary disciples.

Baptism fundamentally changes us and marks the beginning of our life in Christ. We can always draw on the life-giving presence of God in our souls with just one moment of prayer. (Even if that prayer is, "Lord, help!") Join us for daily Mass and take some time to contemplate: Tuesday at 8:30 am

Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord—a moment that is not an ending, but a sending.

Before ascending, Christ entrusts His disciples with a mission: to go forth and make disciples of all nations. With this command comes a promise—He remains with His Church always.

Across the world, that mission continues. In places where faith is young, fragile, or growing, missionaries carry the Gospel with courage and hope, trusting in the presence of Christ who goes before them.

The Ascension reminds us: the Church is sent. And we are part of that mission.

We've been talking a lot about flowers this month. So now it's time for you, St. Anthony, Superior family, to tell us: what's your favorite flower!? Tell us in the comments below! And we'll ask Fr. Andrew for his, too!

He didn’t go where it was easy.
He went where no one else would.

St. Damien of Molokai gave his life to those the world had abandoned—building homes, caring for the sick, and restoring dignity to the forgotten.

He didn’t just serve them.
He became one of them.

His life reminds us that mission is not about distance—it’s about love that stays, even when it costs everything.

Today, we are called to see Christ in the most overlooked and to love without hesitation.

Tomorrow, we will hear the following words of Jesus Christ proclaimed at Mass: "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." These words, taken from the Gospel of John, were put to music in sublime fashion by the great English Catholic composer, Thomas Tallis. Follow the link to give it a listen; it's a great way to prepare for Mass this weekend at St. Anthony: Sunday at 9:00 am.
