“Turn this moment into a movement.”
While we may have tons of pictures of kids doing fun things, what we can’t capture is what God did in their hearts this week. There were dozens of kids throughout the camp who started their relationship with Jesus! There were even more who made a commitment to be “all in” for Jesus. Some students are feeling God lead them into ministry, while others know God is wanting them to leave certain relationships.
It’s easy to make decisions at camp. You’re away from home. Away from friends and boyfriends/girlfriends. You have limited or no access to social media. And unlike any other week of the year, you’re being poured into and taught several times a day for 5 days straight.
Our speaker, Jon, challenged the kids to “turn their moment into a movement”. We don’t want kids to make decisions at camp only to come home and never follow through or make any real changes. So, how do we help them?
As youth leaders, we have limited access and impact on your child compared to you! You may not see it, but you are one of the biggest influencers in your child’s life.
Here are some ways to help your student commit to change:
1) Start a conversation. Have you asked your student what they learned this week, or if they made any decisions? They might be reluctant to share at first, but keep trying!
2) Make God a priority in your life and in your home. Nothing speaks louder than our actions! And by modeling a life sold out for Christ, you’re giving your kid a great example to follow!
3) Make your church a priority. Help your student be faithful to youth group and other services/activities. They’ve made a lot of great relationships this week! Staying faithful to their church helps your student spiritually and relationally.
We are continually praying for every student at Berean, and you as parents! We can’t wait to see how God uses your child to change the world!
