I woke this morning with another tiny bit more understanding. If you are interested in or curious about the things of God you might like to read this. If not, scroll on. If we could understand our God completely, He wouldn’t be God. He would be a myth.
There are a lot of things I have come to understand about God through studying His word but there are still missing answers in my mind. This morning another little puzzle piece fell into place as I was waking up…. Here is what I already knew…. Just for context, I know that God offers to His Son the gift of those who love him and are called by Him. We are here because we have the awesome privilege of being the objects of His great mercy, and we, by our belief and trust, show off that attribute of God which is mercy and grace. We are bought with an extremely high price..
The question I have asked is “Why would God put Himself and mankind through such a difficult process of sin and destruction starting with that temptation in the garden? Why not just create a perfect man and woman who could never do anything against the heart of their maker? It would have been a great gift to give. Yet He chose to make us with hearts that could stray far from Him. He put hearts into Adam and Eve that could and would rebel and that could be deceived, and He introduced a deceiver.
So we see from the historical accounts that God, in His infinite love and patience and justice for thousands of years bore with humanity in our wretched state of sin and despair in order to eventually redeem us at a high price. His Son, who, according to scripture, was the One who created the world and everything in it, lowered Himself to become flesh, live like us, yet without sin, die a natural death and rise again for us to redeem us from our sin and reconcile us with Him. These are great truths. They are as deep as the ocean yet simple enough for a child to grasp. The tiny puzzle piece that snapped into place as I woke this morning is this…. God offers us as a bride, a spotless gift for His beloved Son, a treasure that was buried in the dirt, dug up and cleaned off… redeemed and valuable. I remembered the words of King David when he wanted to buy some land to make a sacrifice to God. The landowner offered to give it to him. David said.. “I will not offer anything that costs me nothing”. That. That is the little piece of truth that was on my mind the moment I woke up today. GOD THE FATHER WILL NOT OFFER ANYTHING TO GOD THE SON THAT COST HIM NOTHING. We are bought with the highest price ever paid! That's why the whole process had to transpire exactly the way it did.
