My Dear "meditation readers,"

You have been reading my "Daily Meditations" for a number of years now, and this is to let you know that because of increasing age and decreasing health, I am about to take some time off.

It might be a few weeks, or it might be a few months or even years.

PLEASE pray for me that the Holy Spirit might guide me along the "path" HE wants to lead me.

I want always to be HIS faithful and humble instrument/tool in HIS HANDS to reveal HIS SAVING LOVE to ALL the sheep of HIS FLOCK!

Please feel free to "post" your "comments", I do read them all, but do not have time to reply to them.

I will keep you informed as best as I can, and THANK YOU ALL for your prayers.

Because you are always near, I don't need to fear being weak. In fact, in fact as Paul puts it in (2 Corinthians 12:9), we hear him speaking about his weaknesses, "But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." That your strength is made perfect in my weakness, the two fit together like a hand in a glove. Please enable me to be thankful for my weaknesses, trusting in your ever-present strength.

Today's Reading is Romans 8:1-17.
[1] Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, [2] because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, [4] in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. [5] Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires, but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. [6] The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. [7] The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. [8] Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. [9] You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. [10] But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. [11] And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. [12] Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. [13] For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. [14] For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. [15] The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” [16] The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. [17] Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

The apostle Paul says that living according to the Spirit and in union with Christ Jesus sets us free from sin and death. Being controlled by human nature is in opposition to living a life guided by God’s Spirit.

Today’s Key Verse: Romans 8:1
There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus

Reflections,
Describe the conflict Paul presents between being controlled by human nature versus being controlled by the Spirit.
When have you experienced this type of conflict?
What were your thoughts at that time?
What words of hope does Paul offer?
Look for other passages in Scripture that give you hope and write down their references
Check out John's Gospel, chapter 10, verse 27, if you are a "member " of Jesus' flock.

Do you HEAR His voice, and are you truly following Him?

Let Us Pray,
Gracious God, thank You for calling me to be Your child and for bestowing Your blessings upon me. Lead me each day by the power of Your Spirit so that my thoughts, words, and actions are pleasing to You and in accord with Your will. I pray this in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit now and forever. Amen.

Today's Reading is John 16:25-33.

[25] “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. [26] In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. [27] No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. [28] I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” [29] Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. [30] Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.” [31] “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. [32] “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. [33] “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Today’s reading concludes the “Farewell Discourse,” which began with John 14 (see the reading from June 23). While Jesus tells the disciples that the world will cause them suffering, he assures them that he has overcome the world and that God loves them.

Today’s Key Verse: John 16:33b
[Jesus said:] “Be brave. I have defeated the world!”

Reflections,
What is the victory that Jesus speaks of?
In verse 28, Jesus tells the disciples that he is leaving the world and returning to God the Father.
He came from God and was sent into the world to make God known (see John 1:18; 14:7).
And his death and his return to God will complete his work (see John 17:4; 19:30).
How has Jesus made God known to you?
Have you developed a "close and personal" relationship with God?
Do you have true "CONVERSATIONS", speaking to and hearing each other, with God?
Let Us Pray,
Holy Jesus, You have defeated the world, and I claim this victory "in Your Name." I believe that You came from God and You have made God known to me and assured me of God’s Love. I thank You, Lord, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit now and forever! Amen.

Today's Reading is John 16:16--24.

[16] Jesus went on to say, “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.” [17] At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” [18] They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.” [19] Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? [20] Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. [21] A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come, but when her baby is born, she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. [22] So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again, and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. [23] On that day, you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. [24] Until now, you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

The disciples are unable to comprehend what Jesus tells them about his impending suffering and death. Jesus tells them that they will be sad for a while, but that their sadness will turn into gladness.
Today’s Key Verse: John 16:22b
[Jesus said to his disciples:] “Now you are sad, but I will see you again, and your hearts will be filled with gladness, the kind of gladness that no one can take away from you.”

Reflections,
According to verses 17 and 18, what questions are on the minds of the disciples?
Jesus uses the image of childbirth to explain the temporary sadness the disciples will experience, which will then be followed by gladness “that no one can take away” (verses 21–22).
What does Jesus say to reassure the disciples (verses 23–24)?
We haven't asked for anything before, but Jesus encourages us to ask His Father in "faith and trust."
"Anything" we ask for, we will receive from the Father!

Let Us Pray,
Dear Jesus, You suffered and died for my sake, but God raised You to life and You defeated sin and death so that all who believe in You would have eternal life. You have turned sadness into joy—a joy that no one can take away. To You be praise, and honor, and glory forever and ever! Amen.

Today's Reading is John 16:4b-15.

[4] I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, [5] but now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ [6] Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things. [7] But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. [8] When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: [9] about sin, because people do not believe in me; [10] about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; [11] and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. [12] “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. [13] But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. [14] He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. [15] All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

Jesus has been telling the disciples about how they will suffer. He says that he is returning to God the Father, but that he will send the Holy Spirit, who will lead them and reveal the truth about God.

Today’s Key Verse: John 16:15
[Jesus said:] “All that my Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit will take what I give him and tell it to you.”

Reflections,
According to verse 6, what are the disciples feeling in response to what Jesus has just told them?
Why does Jesus tell the disciples that it is better for him to go away (verse 7)?
How does Jesus describe the work of the Holy Spirit (verse 13)?
In what ways have you experienced the work of the Holy Spirit in your life?
Has the Holy Spirit ever asked you to give your ALL, including your "life"?
Is it possible that you "did not" hear Him?
Are you "listening" for His "whispered" voice?

Let Us Pray,
Lord Jesus, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me "each day" and to reveal to me the truth about God. Because you have sent the Holy Spirit, I trust that you are with me each day as I continue in my journey in faith. I ask this in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Tomorrow's Reading is John 16:16-24.
Jesus prepares his disciples for his impending suffering and death.

My dear disciples for the Lord,

As our Teacher, Jesus taught us to LOVE EVERYONE, even those who persecute, defame, defile, and try to destroy us.

Jesus taught this to His disciples both in word and action. He held his disciples back when they tried to get even with their offenders.

Please, Lord, help me to always be your faithful and humble disciple.
