Good morning.

Maybe you woke up rested and ready for the day.
Maybe you woke up carrying something heavy.
Maybe your faith feels strong this morning.
Maybe you have questions.
Maybe it took everything you had just to get out of bed.

However this Sunday morning finds you, you are loved. You are held in grace. And you do not have to have everything figured out today.

May you find moments of peace, reminders of hope, and glimpses of God's presence in the day ahead.

And if part of your Sunday brings you to Trinity United Methodist Church to worship God, be assured that there is a place for you here.

A tiny spark can start a fire. And according to James, so can the tongue.

A few words spoken in anger.
A story that wasn’t ours to tell.
A criticism that cut deeper than we intended.
A sentence we wish we could take back.

Words can encourage or wound. They can build up or tear down. They can speak grace or spread anger. Once words leave our mouths, we don’t always get to decide where the fire goes.

This Sunday, "UNFILTERED: Wisdom from the Book of James" returns with WATCH YOUR MOUTH, as we hear James’s challenging words from James 3:1-12 which tell about the tremendous power carried by something as small as the human tongue and the strange truth that the same mouth we use to bless God also has the power to deeply wound others made in God’s image.

As we worship together we will also gather around Christ’s table for Holy Communion, giving thanks that the One who knows every careless word we have spoken still says: Come to the table. There is space and grace for you here.

Whether you've been in church your whole life or you're simply searching for hope, there is space and grace for you among the people called Trinity United Methodist Church.

Have you ever said something and immediately wished you could grab the words and put them back in your mouth?

Yeah. James would like a word.

This week at Common Grounds, we’re digging into James 3:1–12 and some pretty unforgettable images that include (but are not limited to) a bit, a rudder, a spark, a fire, and a tongue that James says nobody can tame.

Why does James care so much about the words we speak? And what do our words reveal about what is happening inside us?

Grab a cup of coffee (or tea), pull up a chair, and we’ll talk about it together.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers...

Join us in prayer for those impacted by devastating flash flooding along the border of Nepal and Tibet today. We pray especially for the families and loved ones of those who have died or remain missing, and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

A QUICK NOTE ABOUT TODAY’S WORSHIP WITH TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

There will be no livestream of the 11:00 a.m. worship service for TRINITY UMC this morning.

This morning, Trinity is gathering for Dinner Church: THIS IS US, which is a different kind of worship experience centered around tables in the Fellowship Hall. We’ll worship, share a meal, celebrate Holy Communion, tell stories, and spend time in conversation with one another.

Because so much of today’s worship happens around the tables rather than from the front of the room, we decided that a livestream wouldn’t really capture the experience and we want those gathered to be fully present for the conversations and community happening at each table.

Trinity UMC will return to our regular livestream next Sunday.

Thank you for understanding, and please keep Trinity UMC in your prayers as we gather around the table today. ❤️

Come to the Table. There is space and grace for all.

DINNER CHURCH
-----------------------------
What happens when Sunday worship moves from rows of pews to gathering at round tables?

TODAY, August 30, at 11:00 a.m., worship at Trinity United Methodist Church will be held in the Fellowship Hall for a special worship experience called "Dinner Church".

We will gather around tables, hear the story of the early church from Acts 2, share a meal as part of our worship, listen to stories of where people have seen God at work in and through the people and ministries of Trinity United Methodist Church during the past year, and celebrate Holy Communion together.

At "Dinner Church", the meal isn’t something that happens after worship. Sharing the meal is part of our worship.

God’s Story.
Christ’s Table.
God’s Church.

Come as you are. There is space and grace for all! (And no reservation needed!)
