It's Labor Day weekend and we are welcoming September, looking toward autumn, and gathering as one church family for worship.

This Sunday is Family Worship Sunday at Summitville Wesleyan. Instead of our usual children’s programming, our kids will join us for the entire service. We believe there’s something important about children experiencing “big church”; hearing the songs, seeing their families worship, being part of the congregation, and learning that they belong here too.

It’s also a chance for the wonderful people who faithfully serve our children week after week to enjoy a well-deserved Sunday to simply rest, worship, and be poured into.

So bring the whole family. Don’t worry if the kids wiggle, whisper, or make a little noise. That’s part of being a church family, and we’re glad they’re here.

Worship begins at 10:30 AM at Summitville Wesleyan.

Want to grow deeper in Scripture and become more confident studying the Bible for yourself?

This fall, Mrs. Shirley Fisher will lead an 8-week journey through Philippians using Scripture Mapping. Together, you’ll learn to slow down, ask good questions, explore context, compare translations, make connections, and move from simply reading Scripture to understanding and applying it.

Whether you’re new to Bible study or have been reading Scripture for years, this will be a relaxed place to learn, ask questions, and grow together. Shirley is a longtime member of Summitville Wesleyan with a deep love for God’s Word and helping others discover its richness.

Wednesdays | 6:30–7:30 PM | Room 101

Come early for our free community meal from 5:30–6:30 PM, and bring the family—Summitville Kids and Teens meet during the class hour.

Do you love the old hymns? Ever wondered about the stories and theology behind the songs we’ve been singing for generations?

This fall, we’re offering something a little different on Wednesday nights at Summitville: An Interactive Study of Hymnology, taught by Dr. RB Kuhn.

Each week, RB will introduce a few well-loved hymns, unpack the history and rich theology behind them, and compare the ways different songs have expressed the faith we sing. And because hymns were meant to be sung, this won’t just be a lecture; you’ll have the opportunity to gather around the piano and sing them together!

RB serves as an Associate Professor of Liberal Arts at Indiana Wesleyan University and is also Summitville Wesleyan’s pianist. A pastor’s kid with decades of experience in worship ministry, he brings a unique combination of scholarship, ministry experience, musicianship, and a genuine love for these songs.
You don’t have to attend Summitville Wesleyan to participate. If hymns, church history, music, or theology interest you, we’d love to have you.

And we’re making Wednesday night easy for the whole family: enjoy a free community meal from 5:30–6:30 PM, followed by the class from 6:30–7:30 PM.
Have kids or teens? We’ll have dedicated programming for them during the class hour as well.

Summitville Wesleyan is continuing our 10-Day Devotional Journey as part of our “Give & Serve” Initiative.

Leading up to the launch of Midweek Discipleship, we’re intentionally seeking God together: asking where He is leading us and how He is calling us to follow, give, and serve.

It’s possible to be surrounded by people and still be lonely. I know because I’ve worn IU gear in West Lafayette before. We can shake hands, smile, talk about the weather, and sit three rows apart for years without ever really knowing each other. Jesus calls us to something deeper.

He said people would recognize His disciples by how they love one another. And that kind of love requires us to get closer. One of the things I’m enjoying as your new pastor is learning your stories. A name means more when you know what’s behind it: where someone has been, what they’ve walked through, and even what makes them laugh. Suddenly, they’re not just someone across the sanctuary. They’re someone you care about.
Jesus was remarkably good at noticing people. He saw individuals in crowds. He stopped. He listened. He entered homes. He asked questions.

Jesus didn’t just know about people. He took time to know them.

Maybe serving someone begins that simply. Learn a name. Ask another question. Really listen to the answer. Remember what they told you. Follow up. One of the greatest gifts we can give another person is our attention.

Imagine a church where generations truly know one another. Where older adults know their wisdom still matters. Where newcomers don’t remain newcomers for long. Where children grow up surrounded by adults cheering them on. And where no one has to wonder if they’ve been forgotten.

That’s the kind of community I believe Jesus calls us to become. Who do you see regularly but barely know? Whose story could you take the time to hear? Who might simply need to know they haven’t been forgotten? It might begin with learning a name.

We’re excited to reveal our Fall 2026 Summitville Kids midweek series: Heroes of Faith!

This fall, kids will discover the true stories of Christians like John Bunyan, Corrie ten Boom, Samuel Morris, and Eric Liddell; ordinary people who trusted an extraordinary God. Through engaging lessons, music, crafts, conversation, and activities, kids will be encouraged to grow in their faith and courageously follow Jesus.

Wednesday nights are designed to make the middle of the week easier for the whole family. Join us for a free community meal from 5:30–6:30 PM, followed by Summitville Kids from 6:30–7:30 PM, with adult tracks available for parents and grandparents during that hour. Teens will be meeting as well.

We’re also committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment where kids are known and cared for by screened and trained volunteers who love the Lord and love children.

Summitville Wesleyan is continuing our 10-Day Devotional Journey as part of our “Give & Serve” Initiative.

Leading up to the launch of Midweek Discipleship, we’re intentionally seeking God together: asking where He is leading us and how He is calling us to follow, give, and serve.

Our culture loves independence. Handle your problems. Take care of yourself. Don’t rely on anyone else. But Scripture gives us a very different picture of the church: a body. A hand needs an arm. An eye needs an ear. Every part is different, but every part matters.

Paul writes, “You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” That means two things: You need other people, and other people need you. As I get to know the people of Summitville Wesleyan, I’m discovering incredible stories. Some have followed Jesus for decades. Some are raising children. Some are teenagers figuring out their identity and place in this world. Others are just beginning their journey of faith.

Imagine what can happen when those lives truly intersect; not simply sharing a room on Sunday morning, but sharing life.
That’s the kind of church I hope we continue becoming: a church where we don’t just recognize faces, but know names and stories.

And you have something to contribute.

Maybe it’s a listening ear. A shared experience. A word of encouragement. A phone call. A meal. A seat at the table.
Whatever it is, don’t underestimate what God can do with it. He has always been remarkably good at taking what ordinary people offer and using it to strengthen someone else.
We weren’t meant to do life alone.

Summitville Wesleyan has begun a 10-Day Devotional Journey as part of our “Give & Serve” Initiative.

Leading up to the launch of Midweek Discipleship, we’re taking 10 days to intentionally seek God together: asking where He is leading us and how He is calling us to follow, give, and serve.

Imagine eating one meal on Sunday and expecting it to carry you through the entire week. By Tuesday, we’d have a problem. If you’re like me, after a third-Sunday fellowship pitch-in, you might have a problem by 9 PM that same night!

Sometimes we approach our relationship with Jesus the same way. We gather on Sunday to worship, hear God’s Word, pray, and encourage one another. But Sunday was never meant to carry the entire weight of our discipleship.

Paul calls us to continue living in Christ, “rooted and built up in him.” Roots grow quietly and consistently. So do we. We grow as we open Scripture, pray, gather with other believers, allow ourselves to be challenged, and serve for His glory.

It is what excites me about this next season at Summitville Wesleyan. We’re not interested in simply being busier. Busy isn’t the same thing as growing. We want to create opportunities where people can genuinely become disciples of Jesus.

So, is Sunday your primary source of spiritual nourishment? Maybe it’s time to get a little more spiritually hungry. What intentional step could you take this week to draw closer to the Lord?

Summitville Wesleyan has just begun a 10-day devotional journey together for our “Give and Serve” Initiative.

For the next 10 days, leading up to the launch of Midweek Discipleship, we’re focusing our collective hearts and minds on hearing the voice of God together; asking where He is leading us and how He is calling us to follow, give, and serve.

Summitville Wesleyan has an incredible legacy.

For generations, people have prayed here, served here, raised their families here, walked through difficult seasons together, and faithfully followed Jesus. Long before any of us stepped into our current roles, God was already at work.

But a legacy isn’t only something we inherit. It’s something we continue. When Jesus found Peter and Andrew beside the Sea of Galilee, His invitation was simple: “Come, follow me.”

And you can’t follow someone without moving. We don’t simply want to be a church with a wonderful history. We want to be a church that is still moving wherever Jesus leads.

That means showing the next generation what following Jesus actually looks like: older believers who are still growing, adults who serve, teenagers discovering that God’s call is for today, and people who notice needs and love their neighbors well.

Whether you’ve followed Jesus for six months or sixty years, He isn’t finished with you. God has given Summitville Wesleyan a wonderful story, and we don’t believe He’s finished writing it.

Old songs. New songs. Young voices. Older voices. Crying babies. Honest questions. Imperfect people worshiping a perfect God.

That’s the kind of church we want to be.

This Sunday, our focus isn’t production or performance. It’s exalting the Lord together as an intergenerational church family and making room for people to come exactly as they are.

We’ll continue our Struggle Bus series with Habakkuk 3 and a powerful question: What does it look like to choose trust and worship when the struggle isn’t over yet?
