In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul gives five reasons why pastors have the right to receive financial support from their church. Although Paul himself gave up this right among the Corinthians, he did so to continue showing them a principle that characterizes a loving Christian: being willing to deny our rights for the greater good of the gospel and our brothers and sisters in Christ—a reflection of Christ’s sacrificial love for us on the cross.

In 1 Corinthians 8, Paul addresses the issue of food sacrificed to idols and the differences in understanding among believers. While some had a wrong understanding of idols, Paul emphasizes the importance of treating one another with love and humility despite differences in knowledge and understanding.

Knowledge must always be accompanied by love and humility. Without them, knowledge only puffs up rather than builds up.
