Article of the Week
“The Love That Cares”
When love guides our words, our decisions, and our actions, we are living out the heart of the Gospel, which is defined by the most important commandment: to love God with all our soul, heart, and mind, and to extend that same love to our neighbor.
Romans 13:10 presents us with a simple yet profoundly powerful truth: love is the most complete way to live out God’s will. For love does no harm to anyone. When we love others, we are fulfilling the entire law.
The Apostle Paul, in his Epistle to the Church in Rome, reminds us that our faith is not demonstrated solely by what we know, by how much we pray, or by how often we attend church. Thus the Epistle says: Love cares for others; it does not harm our neighbor; rather, it respects the lives of others. Our faith becomes visible in the way we treat others.
Christian love does not mean agreeing with everything or everyone, nor does it mean allowing others to hurt us. It means deciding that, even in the midst of our differences, we will treat everyone with dignity and respect because we are all God’s creation.
Love that cares is especially important in our communities and congregations. We may have different cultures, languages, ages, opinions, and ways of understanding things, but there is one thing that must keep us united: the love of Christ—the love that cares.
Because in the end, love is not just a feeling; it is a decision and a way of living out our faith. Love is a responsibility toward others, which God has given us as the path to a life of justice and peace among all people.
Rejoice and Trust; Christ loves you.
