Today's reading is proverbs 15-16.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

A common saying is "Pride goes before a fall." I remember a person saying with pride, "That's not in the bible!" With an arrogant attitude they had the person who had uttered the saying look it up in the Bible while we all watched so we could see how superior their biblical knowledge was.

Pride went before destruction that day.

I am thinking that maybe they forgot that knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. It is not what you know but who you know.

My prayer today: When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

Today's reading is Proverbs 13 - 14.

Proverbs 13:3 Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

I think this morning about things I have said that I regret. I am also thinking about times when I did not speak and really benefited. Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

STOP! Just stop. Think before you talk today.

My prayer today: Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord.

Today's reading is Proverbs 9-10.

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

First Peter 4:8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

James 5:19-20 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

My prayer today: When each can feel his brother's sigh, and with him bear a part; when sorrow flows from eye to eye, and joy from heart to heart; when free from envy, scorn, and pride, our wishes all above, each can his brother's failings hide, and show a brother's love.

Today's reading is Proverbs 5-6.

Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.

We don't work our way to heaven, but nowhere does the scripture promote laziness. Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

My prayer today I want to be a worker for the Lord, I want to love and trust his holy word, I want to sing and pray, and be busy every day, in the vineyard of the Lord.

Today's reading is Psalms 148-150.

Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

The culmination of this great songbook of Israel explains that every living creature must give God praise. This grand finale makes the point that God has given the breath of life to everything that lives. Express your gratitude to your Creator. We finished the book today. We are never finished proclaiming hallelujah!

My prayer today: Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Today's reading is Psalms 142-144.

Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!

I am much more in tune these days as to whether the ground I walk on his level. A twisted ankle or a fall could be devastating. We all ought to appreciate the safety and stability of a smooth and level path.

Hebrews 12:12-13 Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

My prayer today: He leadeth me: O blessed thought! Oh words with heavenly comfort fraught! Whate'er I do, where'er I be, still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.
