Thank you to those brothers and sisters that attended the Sweet Hour of Prayer meeting and breakfast this morning and for those that couldn’t make it but were there in spirit.
We had a blessed time as we came before the Throne Room and lifted up our praises and petitions to our LORD for friends, family, community, surrounding churches, government and country, and local and global missions.

On Saturday October 3rd, in lieu of the Sweet Hour of Prayer, we will be having a Serve Day at our church.
Please pray in advance for this blessed event, and if you feel led, please join Simpsonville Baptist and Sulphur Baptist Church as we serve the LORD by serving His church with various painting project needs, light landscaping needs, as well as some community evangelism outreach.
Time to be determined… food will be provided.
Hope to see you there as we do life and ministry together!

Picture this…
On one side, there is a multitude in need. They have nothing to offer Christ. They have no bread , no resources, no ability to solve their own problem. They are hurting, broken , and lost.
And yet… Jesus looks upon them with compassion, and heals them, then He takes what is insufficient in their hands, He blesses it, breaks it, He satisfies and provides more than enough.
On the other side, there are the Pharisees and Sadducees. They have the Scriptures, the religious knowledge, the position, reputation, and outward morality.
And yet… they stand before the Son of God and demand a sign. They have seen more than enough signs, but they refuse to believe.
The problem is not a lack of evidence… it’s the blindness and hardness of an unbelieving heart.
At the feet of Jesus- this is where He heals our greatest need! (Romans 10:9)

Questions to ponder:
-The question is never whether you have enough… the question is: Is Christ enough? Do I trust Him?
-Mercy ministry is not the gospel, but it is a necessary expression of the gospel’s transforming power. In what practical ways might you be “the very last, and servant of all” at home, work, and in your church?

“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15

God’s word commands us to gather together corporately in prayer and to seek His face in true repentance.
Join us in living out this command the First Saturday of each month at 8am at Sulphur Baptist Church as we pray for each other, our community, our nation, and our world.
There will be a free breakfast following the prayer meeting this Saturday, September 5th @ 8am.

Have you ever received news that changed everything in a matter of minutes? Something you could not fix and could not control.

Great faith is not a faith that understands everything God is doing… Great faith is a faith that refuses to let go of Christ when we don’t understand what He is doing.
In Matthew 15, we find a desperate woman crying out for mercy at Jesus’ feet for her child. JC Ryle said this, “Hopeless and desperate as her case appeared, she had a praying mother… And where there is a praying mother, there is always hope.”
Sometimes the only thing, and yet also the greatest thing that we can ever do for our children, is to pray for them…to go to God, get on our faces, and beg Him for mercy.
God uses the painful and dark times of our lives to till up the hard soil of our lives in order to make it fertile for our faith to grow and for God’s mercy to be applied.
One of the “secrets” to strong intercessory prayer is when we are praying for the needs of others as if they are our own needs; when we take “possession” of their needs and help carry the crushing weight and burden of others as Galatians 6:2 commands us.
A desperate faith is a persistent faith.

Question to ponder:
-When was the last time I was desperate for Jesus and went to Him over and over and over again?
-If God answers my prayer OR if God doesn’t answer my prayers, do I have the faith to trust Him either way?

Please join me this semester in praying for Pastor David Durland as he starts his 3rd year at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary this morning. He is taking OT Hebrew (the language), as he works toward his Masters degree in Theology.

The heart and matters of the heart. God’s Word has a lot to say on this subject. The word heart appears roughly 1,000 times in the bible. Jesus taught some radical truths about the heart. Scripture describes conditions of the heart: the hard/stony heart, the deceitful/wicked heart, the double/divided heart, and the thorny heart. David prayed for the LORD to create in him a clean heart. We are told that a broken and contrite heart, God will not despise. David prayed in Psalm 139 for God to search him and know his heart. We are told to examine our hearts. Scripture tells us that the LORD weighs the motives of the heart. We are also told that the things that proceed out of our mouths reveal the condition of our heart. All sin comes from the heart. Sin is a heart issue. Everything revolves around the heart.
-What is the first thing that we need in order to be a Christian? A new, regenerated heart.
-What is the sacrifice that God asks us to bring to Him? A broken and contrite heart.
-What is the true circumcision? The circumcision of the heart.
-What is genuine obedience? To obey God from the heart.
-What is saving faith? To believe with the heart.
-Where does Christ dwell? He dwells in the heart by faith.

Questions to ponder:
-When was the last time I examined my heart and took a spiritual inventory?
-Am I loving others genuinely without selfishness?
-Am I doing what is honorable and right in the sight of everyone?
-Am I zealous in serving the LORD?
-Am I being productive for the kingdom?
-Am I constant in prayer and praying according to His will?
-Am I seeking to show hospitality and pursue the love of strangers?
-Am I representing Christ well?
-Am I being the hands and feet of Jesus to those who are broken, hurting, and lost all around me?

Sulphur Baptist Church’s Community Outreach event was a success yesterday!
The LORD held back the rain, provided a small breeze every once in a while despite a very hot 🥵 & humid day. He provided volunteers from 4 different churches to help us serve our community.
We want to thank the following brothers and sisters that helped make this event a success yesterday by serving us with their time, talents, resources, and literal sweat equity:
-Simpsonville Baptist: Kyle Moore; Mike, Toni & Robbie Moore.
-Shelbyville First Baptist: Bryan, Jess, Amelia, Dawson, & Weston Murphy; Jerry & Laurie Murphy.
-Southeast Christian: Jayce, Silas, & Abigail Christian.
-Westport Baptist: Ina & Oko.
-Sulphur Baptist: Mike & Lecreta, Dennis, Nancy, Rosey, Reva, Dena, Karen & Ron, and John.
We also want to thank those that couldn’t be there physically, but have been faithfully praying over this event.

How does one measure success?
According to the world, success is measured with numbers and driven by stats.
But… here’s what we know. The LORD is asking us to trust Him, to walk by faith, and to be obedient to His commands. His WORD tells us to be His hands and feet and to love and serve the people He places in our lives. He has provided financially, with volunteers, by strengthening us for the task, and by answering our prayer for a safe event. The Holy Spirit drew 10 families from this community and neighboring communities (maybe a couple other families that may have missed the registration table) and at least 25 children were loved on. Gospel conversations were had and seeds were planted. Our job is to plant the seeds and it is up to the Holy Spirit to water, grow, tend, and to prune.
Just the mere fact that our church held this event is evidence of God’s faithfulness and His power, as this church has not had an event like this in years.
Please be in prayer for future community outreach events. To be continued…

Good morning Sulphur and the surrounding communities.
Today from 12-4, Sulphur Baptist Church is hosting a FREE Family Friendly Event.
Come on out and enjoy your afternoon with your kids playing jenga, co****le, yard darts, ring toss, Tetris, sack races, and let them jump in the bounce house, all while enjoying some popcorn, cotton candy, or a refreshing snow cone.
It’s sure to be a fun time that you won’t want to miss.
Oh, and did I mention it’s FREE!
