The Women on Mission ladies began making plans and preparations for packing 500 Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes for International missions way back in January. A group of ladies made 250 pairs of boy shorts. Each child received a T-shirt & underwear, a water bottle, hygiene products, a toy, and school supplies. In addition items are packed in a reusable plastic shoebox. Mr. Bill Covington at age 99, made 80 wooden cars. What a treasure they’re receiving! Third and fourth grade classes assembled 500 school supply zipper bags during VBS. Children and Student ministries supported the project by packaging 500 hygiene product packages.

On Sunday, November 9th our church members gathered in the gym to pack the boxes. WOM had arranged everything for a smooth effort and in 30 minutes or so, 500 boxes were packed and moved to the Sanctuary.

On Sunday, November 16th the church held a dedicated time of prayer and special thank you to all that helped in anyway with donations, work days, sewing, praying, etc. It takes a giving church like HRBC to make this intergenerational project possible! These gifts will brighten a child’s life and potentially up to nine people can be reached for Jesus from that one box.

On November 18th the 500 boxes were then loaded and delivered to the collection site. Job well done!

On November 17th WOM had the privilege to feed about 150 students at McNeese’s BCM. They were served homemade pulled pork sandwiches, chips and had a few dessert choices It was all delicious and several of the students can attest to that because they had a second or even third sandwich! 😊

A special thank you to all the ladies and gentleman that helped set everything up and served the students that were very appreciative. A shoutout to Anita Statum for preparing the pulled pork.

Brother Lonnie Gothrup gave a brief encouraging message and the students also received a goodie bag.

We also met the new BCM leader, Justin, and welcomed him to the Lake Charles area.

What a blessing it is to serve others! 💕

HRBC Women on Mission Meeting 9/17/24:

We had a special visitor, Mr. Bill(98) dropped by to deliver 60+ handmade wooden cars he crafted for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes(Video below). Mr. Bill has graciously used his talent as a craftsman to make these cars for our mission project for many years, proving no matter the age God can use you mightily. There will be some very happy boys when they open their shoeboxes. Thank you Mr. Bill for being so faithful…we love and appreciate you!

Had tables full of attendees for our Sept. meeting and have a busy Fall schedule planned. Major focus will be the Operation Christmas Child packing process.

Great meal had by all. Join us 3rd Tuesday of each month, 10AM in the Family Life Center.
