June 7, 2026; Second Sunday after Pentecost - Jesus Comes for Sinners

Welcome to St. John's Lutheran - Golden Lake/Sullivan, Wisconsin!

As We Gather:
Today we focus on God’s great love, coming to us with grace and mercy, even as He did not give up on His chosen Old Testament people. His invitation to them reminds us of the resurrection of our Lord, our hope for all eternity.

He asks only the faith He has given us, faith received by our ancestor Abraham in his old age and trusted for all that God promised. God has returned to us, and the promise is for everyone!

And now our Lord sends us out, accompanying us on our journey. We go not to faultless people but sinners whom God wants to forgive as we announce the gracious Gospel to them.

Welcome to St. John's Lutheran - Golden Lake/Sullivan, Wisconsin!

As We Gather:
It seems unsettling that God is thinking about us. At first, aware of our failings, we are full of guilt and perhaps foreboding. But understanding God’s loving concern, His thoughts quell our misgivings. The Old Testament Reading reminds us that He created everything—for us. Although the people of Jerusalem were instrumental in Jesus’ crucifixion, Peter’s reminder of David’s writing points out that the Creator is stronger than His creation. Good news! And despite our sins and wanderings, God wants to use us. He has work for us to do. He must be thinking about what we can do, now separated from our sins. We have been united to Christ. “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:1).

May 24, 2026; Pentecost

Welcome to St. John's Lutheran - Golden Lake/Sullivan, Wisconsin!

As We Gather:
The arrival of the Holy Spirit is a day of celebration. This is a day to rejoice in promises kept and anticipate greater things to come. Today’s festival is a bridge for the church. It connects the commemoration of the life of Christ (through Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, and Easter) to the season centered on our life in Christ, beginning with Pentecost.

The festival’s signature red color reminds us of the fiery arrival of the Spirit, the Spirit’s ongoing work as the heartbeat of Christ’s church, and the blood shed by believers past and present as they proclaim the crucified, risen, and ascended Christ.

Welcome to St. John's Lutheran - Golden Lake/Sullivan, Wisconsin!

As We Gather:
Christians are “faith alone” people.

We most often think of that in terms of salvation: we are saved by faith alone! But throughout our daily life, Christians function by faith alone. We practice generous stewardship by faith alone, trusting in the God who supplies all our needs. We keep God’s commands by faith alone, confident that His ways are better than our ways. And we pray by faith alone, assured our loving God has opened His door and His heart to hear and answer us.

It is faith, and faith alone, that fuels us for life today and secures us for the life to come.

Mother's Day, May 10, 2026; Easter 6; Is God’s Love for us “Iffy”?

Happy Mother's Day & Welcome to St. John's Lutheran - Golden Lake/Sullivan, Wisconsin!

As We Gather:
Throughout our lives, we look for a helper. Maybe that’s a parent who can hold our hand to cross the street, a spouse who can open the pickle jar, or an expert who delivers wisdom we don’t have.

Our Lord Jesus Christ sends us a helper, the promised Holy Spirit. The Spirit opens our heart to faith and then fills it with heavenly wisdom. Present in our Baptism and present today in worship, the Spirit keeps our hand firmly in our Savior’s, so that linked by love, we can walk confidently in His promises.

A rich young man comes to Jesus. He asks, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”(Mt 19:16.) Through the course of their discussion, Jesus eventually tells the man, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Mt 19:21.) We all want to go to heaven. We all want to be worthy of heaven, to meet Christ at the gates to His heavenly kingdom and hear the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant…” but in these verses, Jesus makes it clear that to earn a place in heaven you must be nothing less than perfect in thought word and deed every hour, minute, and second of your life.
If perfection is heaven’s price of admission, who then can lay claim to it? Who can stand and say, I am worthy of the Kingdom of God? We all have guilty consciences, we all have failed, have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and for our failure we are cut off from heaven. So, God provides for His people another way, He sends His Son to come down from heaven, be born of the virgin Mary, suffer under Pontius Pilate, be crucified die and then be buried, to rise again three days later before ascending into heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father where He rules over all things forever.
Christ has died, and Christ has risen. He does these things to overcome the powers of sin and death. He does them to restore fallen humanity to give us once more the gifts of heaven and eternal life. And He promises these gifts to us through baptism. Through this water combined with God’s word, Jesus delivers to us the promise that our sins are forgiven, that we have been washed clean, been made partakers of His death, all so that we might receive also in His Name new and eternal life. Baptism saves you. Not because it washes dirt from your body. Not because it lets you show your love for God, but because through it, Jesus shows His love for you, makes you a part of His death, and promises you a part in His resurrection.

May 3, 2026: Easter 5 - Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled

Welcome to St. John's Lutheran - Golden Lake/Sullivan, Wisconsin!

As We Gather:
How far can you see?

Several factors affect our vision but for an observer at sea level, the horizon is about three miles away. How clearly a person can see may be limited by atmospheric conditions such as fog, haze, dust, and water v***r. A clear vision makes a great difference in every situation!

In “What God Ordains Is Always Good,” German hymn writer Samuel Rodigast shared this Christian life insight about God’s plan and providence: “Now I may know both joy and woe; someday I shall see clearly that He has loved me dearly” (LSB 760:4).

Our worship helps us clarify our vision of God’s graciousness!
