God is good in sending us friends that are only a phone call away! Ed Havrilla volunteered to clear a strip of our property along West County Road. The last part of the project required additional help. And here came in Father Eugene Hradil with a group of our friends to finish the job. A BIG thank you to each and every one of them for the gift of their time.

Although the Pilgrimage preparations take up most of our time, some of the Christmas baking began. Fruitcakes are done and ready to "age" in our coolers. Aging fruitcakes with brandy enhances their flavor and acts as a preservative. The fruit is soaked in brandy (we add orange juice as well for extra moisture) for at least 12 hours before baking and the aging process can last several weeks to months. Our fruitcakes are made in small batches and are hand decorated.

In June Mother Marija celebrated her 97th birthday. Today, July 22nd, we celebrate with her 80 years of monastic life. To God we give thanks for the grace of this vocation. And we thank her for her witness of fidelity to God's will. May God grant her many more years!
