From VT 83 When in Our Music God Is Glorified
(vs. 1,4,5)
When in our music God is glorified,
and adoration leaves no room for pride,
it is as though the whole creation cried alleluia!
How often, making music, we have found
a new dimension in the world of sound,
as worship moved us to a more profound alleluia!
Let ev’ry instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always alleluia!

Sometimes we can’t put our thoughts into words but the medium of music can express our deepest feelings. Today we will rely on music to reflect both our grief and our joy at having known and
lived alongside Nate Miller and Dotti Schrock, our friends who
both loved music.

Jesus taught many things to his disciples and the crowds that were there listening, about God’s kingdom and what it meant to follow him. He said that they should seek to enter through the narrow gate to find life through him. He spoke of the metaphor of building a firm foundation in their lives by not only hearing his words, but also putting them into practice in their lives. How can we grow in learning to hear and put into practice God’s Word in our lives, as we continue to follow Christ today?

Pentecost is the moment when God’s Spirit descends, not just to rest upon us, but to move from our heads to our hearts—so we may walk in the world fully ignited, living as flame.

We celebrate the ascended King, who sits at the right hand of God, filling all things with his presence and reigning in power. Though out of sight, our Savior is not distant. We worship the present Lord who remains with us always—in Scripture, sacrament, and service. The ascension is our liberation; as Christ takes his throne, we are freed to live out our Resurrection faith, bringing hope and justice to the world.

After his resurrection, Jesus revealed that he was with his disciples in new and sometimes surprising ways. The disciples had doubts and difficulty believing that Jesus had risen and he came to them and allowed them to touch and see the scars on his body. Today, Jesus is still with us, ready to meet us and walk with us, through times of unbelief, doubt, uncertainty, sorrow and joy.

Like sheep, we learn to recognize the Shepherd’s voice together. Worship this week focuses on discernment as a communal practice and listening for Christ’s call to abundant life.

The two disciples that were going to Emmaus on the day Jesus arose from the grave were downcast and not sure of what to do after all that happened with Jesus’ death on the cross. They meet a man who joins their discussion and begins to open the Scripture to explain the purpose of these events. Later, they realize it was Jesus who was with them, as he broke bread and gave thanks. What are ways that we can see and experience the resurrected Christ in our lives today?

Jesus told his disciples of his betrayal, death on the cross, and that he would rise again on the third day. They heard the words, but when the reality of these events happened, they fled, and hid in fear of what may happen next. They needed to see Jesus Christ, in his scarred, resurrected body, to again find the hope and peace that only he can bring. As followers of Christ, there are times when we face trials, loss, and difficult things that can cause us to become fearful, weary, and lack hope in believing God’s promises in his word. How can we see and experience the resurrected Christ in our lives today? What brings you peace and hope, to carry on in your journey of faith?

Today we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Death could not defeat him. Jesus lives! Our dissonance now is like that of the first disciples: What does this all mean?
