Biblical Israel Ministries & Tours

Biblical Israel Ministries & Tours We are an evangelical non-profit (501c3) ministry that offers trips to Israel and teach the Bible in the context of the land of Israel.

Dr. John DeLancey, Director, has led 96 Israel tours to date. He also has studied in Jerusalem for one year. We are an evangelical non-profit (501c3 tax-exempt) ministry that does two primary things: 1). We lead highly biblical tours to Israel (and other lands of the Bible), and 2). We offer "Physical Settings of the Bible" teaching seminars for churches and schools. We inspire one's journey of faith by connecting people to the land of the Bible.

Welcome to Episode #7 of our series, “Picture This” from Egypt! This episode takes us to the incredible Great Sphinx in Giza, Egypt! Located south of Cairo and in the vicinity of the Great Pyramids, the Great Sphinx still stands.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a colossal 4,500-year-old (conventional dating) Egyptian monument carved directly from a single limestone ridge. It measures about 220 feet long and about 65 feet high. The statue features a lion’s body and a human head, serving as a powerful symbolic guardian. For much of its history, the Sphinx was buried up to its neck in the desert sand. An ancient stone tablet known as the "Dream Stele" stands between its paws today, detailing how Pharaoh Thutmose IV cleared the sand away after the statue appeared to him in a dream. The Sphinx faces due east, directly in line with the rising sun. Because of its lion body and eastward gaze, some scholars believe it was built to represent the sun god Ra or to serve as an astronomical marker for ancient solar worship.

Welcome to Episode #29 of our series, “Picture This” from Israel! This episode takes us on a real adventure as we walk through Hezekiah’s Tunnel in Jerusalem. Within the City of David is a 1,710-foot tunnel chiseled out of bedrock in 701 BC (or slightly before) by King Hezekiah. We know this because the Bible tells us (2 Kings 20, 2 Chronicles 32, Isaiah 8, etc…).

The tunnel was discovered in the 1880s. Water from the Gihon Spring still flows through the tunnel. The purpose of the tunnel was to divert water from the spring to within the heightened walls of the city at the southern. According to the inscription found at the end of the tunnel, two teams of rock-cutters cut out the tunnel. At the end of the tunnel was a pool to collect the water (i.e. in the “Lower Pool”). This tunnel project was a remarkable engineering feat! Today, we walk through the tunnel with water shoes and flashlights. It is quite the experience!

Chapters:

0 - 25: Introduction
0:25: Opening word standing at the Gihon Spring
0:50: Canaanite entrance into the tunnel
2:20: Entrance into Hezekiah's Tunnel
8:40: Middle meeting point of the tunnel
9:00: Closing word
9:45: Bonus section - Exiting the tunnel
10:30: The ritual pool (Siloam pool ? - John 9)

"Light in the Land" - Exploring the Bible within the Physical Settings of Israel - Podcast #38 - 2 Samuel 11.

In this episode, we journey to the palace of King David within the City of David in Jerusalem. The story of 2 Samuel 11 includes Bathsheba and the sin David committed with her.

Archaeologically, the palace of David has been uncovered by (the late) Elat Mizar. Below the palace is the excavation called "Area G" where just maybe Bathsheba's house was located (?). This is also where I excavated for close to 5 weeks in June-July, 1982. Ultimately David finds forgiveness in God (Psalm 51).
