Hi everyone and I pray you are all well. Before moving on to the message to the church at Thyatira, I wanted to make a few brief comments. Primarily, I wanted to say that the Book of Revelations is not meant to frighten the true believer in Jesus Christ, but rather, to prepare that believer for the events that are to follow. God has not destined the true believer to wrath, but rather, God’s goal is to make the true believer prepared for a difficult time by addressing issues and weaknesses common to all of us believers still living in these fallen bodies and yet possessing the Holy Spirit of power, love, and self- control within. God takes notice of those who sincerely take His messages to heart and even records them in His book of Remembrance.
Consider the book of Malachi. That book bears similarities with chapters 2 and 3 of the book of Revelations. In Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, God tells the people those specific sins and issues He has with them. And in fact, that book was a similar kindness of God in that it was meant to prepare the people to be ready for and recognize the first coming of Jesus Christ. That book is a preview of the ministry of John the Baptist who did indeed prepare the people of his day to recognize and come to and believe in the true Messiah of Israel when He was presented to them.
Going back to the book of Malachi, something very comforting and encouraging is said regarding those who have truly taken the Lord’s words to heart and repented of what was being pointed out to them. Here are those passages from Malachi 3.
Mal 3:16-18
16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another (REPENTED AND MOURNED AND CHANGED DIRECTION), and the LORD GAVE ATTENTION AND HEARD IT, AND A BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE WAS WRITTEN BEFORE HIM FOR THOSE WHO FEAR THE LORD AND ESTEEM HIS NAME. 17 “THEY WILL BE MINE,” says the Lord of hosts, “ON THE DAY THAT I PREPARE MY OWN POSSESSION, AND I WILL SPARE THEM AS A MAN SPARES HIS OWN SON WHO SERVE HIM.” 18 So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him. NASU
For verse 17, the King James Version reads: “AND THEY SHALL BE MINE,” says the Lord of host, “ON THE DAY WHEN I MAKE UP MY JEWELS.”
And then, going to Mal 4: 2-3, we read,
Mal 4:2-3
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3 AND YE SHALL TREAD DOWN THE WICKED; FOR THEY SHALL BE ASHES UNDER THE SOLES OF YOUR FEET IN THE DAY THAT I SHALL DO THIS (BRING HIS JUDGMENT AND WRATH UPON THE UNREPENTENT), saith the Lord of hosts. KJV
Verse 3 above is essentially the promise for those who hear, read, and heed the messages to the seven churches in Revelations 2-3. The Lord loves His Church. He is not mad at His Church. The Lord will make His Church fit for His Glorified, Holy Presence. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about those who remain outside His provision for salvation. God is graciously giving us all time, even while terrible things are happening in secret to the most vulnerable among us. The Book of Revelation is meant to prepare His Church for the time period leading up to and including the second coming of Christ just as the book of Malachi was for the most part meant to prepare the people for the first coming of Christ. For many in the church, even we who have tried hard with good intentions, but have failed in so many ways, the time coming for us as outlined in the Book of Revelations can be and will be our finest hour!
