May 31 - God is Triune
We believe in the triune God. He is the only true God. The festival of the Holy Trinity is a time to celebrate God revealing himself to us as one God in three persons. The triune God wants his people to teach this mystery in its biblical truth and purity. This festival of the Holy Trinity begins the second half of the Church Year with a proclamation of people being baptized and blessed in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the only true God.

May 24 - He Lives to Pour Our His Spirit
When the disciples were distressed about Jesus ascending into heaven, he assured them, “It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7). That Advocate is the Holy Spirit. If Jesus had stayed in the grave, the Holy Spirit would have had no reason to enter the lives of disciples.

But Jesus lives, and it makes a difference. The Spirit provides faith and purpose for life. Pentecost, the celebration of the special arrival of the Holy Spirit, is the third great festival of the Church, along with the Nativity and the Resurrection. Pentecost closes the fifty-day period after Easter and ends the festival half of the church year. The Church dresses in red on this day to commemorate the tongues of fire that marked the Spirit’s gift as well as the blood of the martyrs.

May 17 - He Lives to Rule All Things for the Church
Without the resurrection of Jesus, we would have to wonder who oversees the world. At times the world seems so chaotic. People claim to be in charge but they have limited power and strange ideas. Many of the ideas are harmful for Christians. Leaders seem to lead without acknowledging Jesus.

But he lives, and it makes a difference. Jesus is head over everything for the Church. At the time of Ascension, he takes his proper place. The Festival of the Ascension is one of the oldest and most joyful celebrations in the Christian Church. It will be observed by Christians until Christ returns to take us to be with him.

May 10 - He Lives to Be the Only Way to Heaven
Without the resurrection of Jesus, I would have to wonder if he wasn’t just a human being. If my last view of him is a criminal crucified on a cross, he would look like someone to be rejected. He couldn’t even help himself, much less anyone else!

But he lives, and it makes a difference. He is the only way to heaven. This gospel message is the most inclusive message in the world. The benefits of the resurrection of Jesus are meant for every man, woman, and child who has ever lived.

All ladies are invited to join us for a special Advent by Candlelight service: Unwrapping the Names of Jesus. Jesus, King of kings, Immanuel, Prince of Peace—we hear these names referring to God’s Son often during this time of year. Each name confesses something uniquely special that Jesus has done for us, revealing a priceless gift just waiting to be opened and treasured for a lifetime. Together, let us prepare our hearts and minds for the Christmas season and focus our attention on Jesus through Scripture, narrative, and song.

The Advent by Candlelight service will be held on Friday, December 5th at Mt. Olive: 6:00pm - drinks, food, and fellowship; 6:30pm - program starts. All ladies are welcome! Including friends, family & neighbors. Drinks will be provided. Bringing an appetizer or dessert to share is appreciated. Signup is available at https://forms.gle/4rraG7eEoqHePYhd7, or from a link on the NEWS page of our website.

“The Lord is not slow to do what he promised. . . . Instead, he is patient for your sakes, not
wanting anyone to perish, but all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Luther began his famous
debate theses noting that Scripture’s call to repentance is intended as a way of life. Using David’s
great penitential Psalm 51, penned following his affair with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah,
this series of Lenten reflections explores the depths of our sinful depravity, the brokenness of our
relationship with God, our dire need for rescue, and the good news of forgiveness, cleansing, and
rejoicing in our restored relationship with God and the promise of eternal life through Jesus our
Savior.

Daniel had no power over his circumstances or the people around him, but there was one thing he did have power over – – his reaction to these influences. Within that small circle of control, he chose to be a man of integrity and conviction, to honor God with his mind and body. And he let the Lord take care of things in the larger circle – – his boss, his education, his health, and his rewards in life.
