This morning, Father Babu and I celebrated Mass for the parish communities of Holy Rosary and Holy Trinity in England. As the pastoral change takes effect today, we asked for the intercession of today’s saint, St. Anthony of Padua, who has a special importance for Fr. Babu because he was the patron saint of his home parish in India.

On a personal note, it has been a great blessing for me to be pastor of this church community the last three years. Thank you all for your kindness to me! May God continue to bless all of you, and please be sure of my continued prayers.

What a joyful day for our parish community! Congratulations to Ken Nelson, Meg McCarley, Clay Jeter, and Lizzie Hartz, who were received into the Church, confirmed, and made their first Holy Communion this morning at Mass. Many thanks to their Sponsors, their families, and all those who have helped to prepare them for this day.

Congratulations also to the Keller, Creason, and McCarley families, whose children were baptized this weekend. The Body of Christ continues to grow!

Come, Holy Spirit! 🕊🔥

06/04/2022

With great joy, tomorrow at the 10 a.m. Mass, we will be welcoming some members of our parish community into the fullness of the Catholic faith. They have been journeying toward this day over the last several months and years, and there's no better day to celebrate with them than on the Solemnity of Pentecost. Come, Holy Spirit!

Because of this, please understand that tomorrow's Mass may last a few minutes longer than usual, as the Rite of Reception and Confirmation will follow the homily. Please be sure to extend a warm welcome to the family and other guests who will be present with us, and note that some of the pews at the front of church will be reserved for them.

The first Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 11 at Christ the King Church in Little Rock. The second will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 25 at St. Vincent de Paul...

He will be ordained by Bishop Taylor in Little Rock that Saturday morning; the Mass will be livestreamed on the diocese’s YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/cdolr. Deacon Greg will then be returning to Stuttgart to preach and serve at the 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. Masses that weekend. Following each Mass, there will be a social in the parish hall in his honor.

We will also have the opportunity at those gatherings to welcome our new pastor, Father Babu. And it will be Father Andrew’s last weekend with us so you can tell him farewell and thanks. Please plan to join us after either Mass that weekend!

An Announcement from Fr. Andrew

(español abajo)

I hope everyone is having a blessed week. In my homily this past Sunday, Mother’s Day, I spoke a bit about mothers and also about other vocations of service to the Church. My central point was that, since God calls all of us to holiness, every vocation is a help to every other. For example, in my service as a priest, I find inspiration from the love and faithfulness that you show in your families, and conversely, I hope that what I do provides you spiritual strength and support in the ways that you need it.

I wrote that homily with the expectation that, in the course of it, I would be making the following announcement, but it had to be delayed last minute. (I’m sorry for that; I wish I could have shared this news with you in person.) I learned last week that my priestly assignment will be changing and, by the middle of June, Holy Rosary will have a new pastor. Since I came here three years ago, I have also had an assignment as a judge on the diocesan tribunal. Bishop Taylor has asked me to relocate to Little Rock to begin serving in that capacity full time.

Your new pastor will be Fr. Babu Battula, a priest of the Diocese of Nellore, India, who has broad experience of being a pastor here in Arkansas and, before that, in Oklahoma. When I was first ordained and stationed in Fort Smith, I came to know Fr. Babu because he was the pastor of a large, vibrant, multicultural church across town. He was well-liked by everyone who knew him; he has a joyful personality, is an able pastor to both English and Spanish-speaking communities, and was well-loved by the children of the parish school. Fr. Babu is coming back from India to serve our parish, and I have no doubt that his kindness and years of pastoral experience in different settings will be a blessing to the Holy Rosary community.

I know this news is surprising; it was for me, too. For some of you, it may also be a disappointment, and it certainly is that for me. However, I am hopeful that this change will benefit our community in the long run. Together, we have weathered the worst of the pandemic, and now the future is full of opportunities on many different fronts. As sad as I am to be leaving, I am glad for you that Fr. Babu will be able to dedicate all of his time and energy to the needs of our parish and school in a way that I could not.

In my homily on Sunday, I said that every vocation has its joys and its challenges; by means of both, God conforms us ever more to the image of his Son Jesus. The hardest challenge about the priesthood that I have found is saying farewell to the communities I have served. It has been a privilege to have been a part of this community these last three years, and I am grateful to all of you for how you’ve helped me to be a better, more Christlike priest.

Please reach out if you have questions or concerns, and let’s keep each other in prayer, including Fr. Babu as he returns to the USA. And let’s keep our eyes on Jesus the Good Shepherd, because in the end, as the psalmist said on Sunday, all of us – priests and parishioners – are “His people, the sheep of His flock.” I look forward to seeing you all over these next several weeks.

In Christ,

Fr. Andrew Hart

Un Anuncio de Padre Andrés

(English above)

P. Andrew Hart

Congratulations to Elaina and Lucille, two of our students at Holy Rosary Catholic School, who made their First Holy Communion at this morning’s Mass. May the graces of this day be with you always!

With great sadness, but with firm faith in the Lord's Resurrection and a hope to share in his Easter joy, we announce the death of our friend and former parishioner Betty Lorince. For decades, Betty was a constant and joyful presence at Holy Rosary and around the Stuttgart community, before moving to Texas a few years ago to be closer to family. Despite the physical distance, she kept up the bonds of friendship with many in our community and remained spiritually very connected to our parish.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary on Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held the evening before from 6-7 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home, with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. A link to the full obituary will be posted when it is available.

Let us pray for the repose of Betty's soul, as well as for peace and consolation for her family and all who grieve her passing.
