Kingdom Perspectives, Complete Week

We do not see things the way they are; we see things the way we are. In this complete week of teaching on kingdom perspectives, Graham Jones shows how the heart shapes everything we perceive. He begins with the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus raises the bar so high that only His own life in us can meet it, and explores the unknown unknowns and invisible fences that keep us living within limits that no longer exist. He then explains that the world we see is real but very incomplete, and that we relate to God as we know Him to be, not as He actually is — like the servant in Luke 19 who called his master austere — until a revelation of God's generosity changes what we receive. In Numbers 13 and 14, twelve spies take the same tour of the Promised Land yet return with two reports: Joshua and Caleb declare, "We are well able," while the ten see themselves as grasshoppers, and God calls their factual report evil because it contradicted what He had spoken. In the Q&A, Graham answers questions on spiritual blindness, hearing God, meditation, and moving from revelation to understanding until the day star rises in our hearts. God wants to change how we see.

The eye and the ear are the gateway into the heart, and in this Q&A Graham Jones answers five questions about how we perceive. How can I recognize spiritual blindness? Begin with the humility that admits you do not see what you do not see; ask God to show you your unknown unknowns, and notice where you keep bumping into the same thing. Sight in the spirit has more to do with humility than intelligence, for God gives grace to the humble and reveals things to babes. Can wrong thinking keep me from hearing God? Yes — God rarely gatecrashes fixed beliefs, so ask Him, "Have I got this wrong?" How does Scripture reshape the way we see God? Through meditation and a sanctified imagination, as David saw victory where others saw a giant. What did Jesus mean by "But I say"? He contrasted the world's perception with God's and called us to put away childish understanding. How do we move from revelation to understanding? Engage with the Word until the day star rises in your heart, as gradually as a sunrise. Graham shares how speaking Philippians 4:19 in India, without yet believing it, eventually became an unshakeable revelation of God's provision.

You do not see things as they are; you see things as you are. Graham Jones turns to Numbers 13 and 14 to show how the heart shapes what we see. Israel spent about 430 years in Egypt, and generations of slavery embedded a slave and poverty mentality in the people. God delivered them supernaturally, yet they were not free on the inside, and an eleven-day journey from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea took forty years. Graham notes that the elders stopped on the mountain while Moses walked on into the glory of God — something in the heart was holding the people back. Moses sent twelve spies into the land. They took the same tour and saw the same grapes, cities, and giants, yet returned with two different reports. Joshua and Caleb declared, "We are well able," while the ten said, "We were like grasshoppers in our own sight." Everything the ten said was factual, yet God called it an evil report, because unbelief contradicted what He had already spoken. Only Joshua and Caleb entered. God has a promised land for every believer — His purposes, promises, and glory — and the perception of our hearts determines whether we go in.

Kingdom Perspectives, Part II

The world we see is not the world as it truly is. It is not wrong, but it is very incomplete. Graham Jones explains that our eyes capture a narrow bandwidth of light while our brains build a picture of reality — and all around us is a spiritual realm we cannot see apart from the grace of God. We also filter everything through experience: a pen, a cup, or a city street can look harmless or dangerous depending on what we have lived through. Above all, God wants us to see Him as He truly is, because we relate to God as we know Him to be, not as He actually is. Like the servant in Luke 19 who called his master austere, we receive according to our view of God: believe He saves but does not heal, and you will receive salvation but not healing. Graham shares how a missionary mindset of "just enough" gave way to a revelation of God's generosity, illustrated by Mary of Bethany's costly offering. Jesus often quoted Isaiah 6 — see with the eyes, hear with the ears, perceive with the heart — and Paul prayed that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened.

Kingdom Perspectives, Part I

We do not see things the way they are; we see things the way we are. In this teaching, Graham Jones opens the theme of kingdom perspectives by revisiting the Sermon on the Mount, which once felt to him like the Law of Moses Part 2. Rather than lowering the bar, Jesus raises it so high that only He can meet it — and grace proves far more demanding than the Law. Yet Jesus is not telling us to try harder; He is describing how His own life expresses itself in a citizen of the kingdom when we come to Him, die, and let Him birth His life in us. Graham then explores how little we actually perceive: Donald Rumsfeld's "unknown unknowns," Sherlock Holmes asking Watson about the steps at Baker Street, and the way we suddenly notice the vehicle we want to buy. We see with the eye, but we perceive with the heart, filtered through culture, memory, pain, and experience. Like a dog trained by an invisible fence that stays away from the boundary long after the power is off, we live within limits that no longer exist. Mission trips often break those fences, and people return bold. God wants to change how we see.
