Strongsville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Cameron Ryba served as the keynote speaker at the Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon, held at the Ehrnfelt Recreation and Senior Center. To stay informed about local developments, Our Savior’s Outreach Coordinator Terry Mazzone attended alongside approximately 80 community members. During the annual State of Schools address, Dr. Ryba presented the district’s facilities plan and discussed the $147.65 million bond issue scheduled for the May 5 ballot. If approved, this bond will enable construction of three new Kindergarten-through-fifth-grade elementary schools and the repurposing of a fourth building for a centralized pre-school. The facilities plan was developed with input from school officials, community stakeholders, and state representatives. Notably, four of the five existing elementary schools date back to the 1960s. Pastor Steve Schmidt and Our Savior’s Outreach Coordinator Terry Mazzone attended the Strongsville Chamber of Commerce’s State of the City address with Mayor Tom Perciak, the city’s number one cheerleader. The renovated community center was filled to near capacity with about 220 people in attendance. As a church, we are so fortunate to be based in such a progressive, vibrant, and well-run community. It is impressive that Strongsville is one of only 14 cities in Ohio that has an Aaa financial rating, which benefits the city greatly when it comes to having to borrow funds at lower interest rates for critical infrastructure improvements, like the refurbishing of the community center. The Mayor also reports the housing market in Strongsville was rated Number 6 in the country. Very impressive.

Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church of Strongsville will install Pastor Stephen Schmidt at a special service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1. Schmidt will become the seventh fulltime pastor in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod church’s 49-year history.

He replaces Vacancy Pastor Carl Busse, who has served the 130-member congregation since November 2024.

Pastor Schmidt grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota where his father served a number of congregations as pastor. He graduated from Martin Luther Preparatory School Prairie du Chien, WI, in 1988; followed by Northwestern College of Orange City, IA. He then went to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI and was ordained in 1996.

Upon graduation from WLS he was assigned to tutor at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN and taught Old Testament history. While tutoring in New Ulm he met his wife Margo, and they were married in 1998. He was reassigned to Ascension Lutheran of Jacksonville, NC, where he served for nearly 16 years before being called in 2014 to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Oak Creek, WI, where he continued to serve until accepting the call in Strongsville.

He and his wife have two grown daughters. They will be living in Strongsville.
