Fr. Peter’s first children’s homily for the summer:

Today I talked to the children, about two of the most important things in the whole wide world.
I asked them what you think you absolutely need to live. How about toys? Will you die without toys? Do you absolutely need clothes, shoes or hats?
How about food do you absolutely need food to live? Will you die if you don’t have food? Yes, food is one of the most important things in the world to us. I then showed them some very common food, some whole wheat bread and pita bread. Next, I asked them what happens when you don’t eat? How do you feel?
Then I talked to them about another very important thing but not a thing it’s a who. I asked them who is the most important person ever to have lived?
Jesus is the only person who can save us from our sins. If Jesus didn’t live, we wouldn’t be Christians. If Jesus didn’t live, our souls would die. Because Jesus lived, we can live in heaven with Him. Without Jesus, we’re lost. Jesus is the most important person who ever lived, now and forever.
Without food, we die. Without Jesus, our souls die.
Our bodies automatically remind us to eat some food. Do our hearts automatically remind us to think about Jesus? No, not really. Our hearts or souls aren’t that good. Our hearts, our souls, don’t automatically become hungry for Jesus. Sometimes we forget about him. We can go for days without thinking about Jesus. So we need a reminder. I then gave each child two little miniature Jesus statues and on his stole it says “Jesus loves you.” I asked them to place those miniature Jesus statues somewhere where they will see them every day to remind them to think of Jesus. I also asked them to perhaps give one of the statues to someone else to remind them to think about Jesus and that that was being a good disciple of Christ. To spread the good news to others.
