Drummer Richard Sylvester provides the solid beat that holds the band together. His playing is filled with invention and wit.

Introduced to jazz and swing music by his saxophonist older brother and his award-winning dancer parents, Richard began formal drum lessons by age ten. He organized his first working trio when he was sixteen, earning decent income throughout high school. Richard has continued performing since, throughout New England as well for a 20 year period based in NYC, affording him a host of touring opportunities, and most importantly meeting, studying, and playing with many of his jazz heroes. Making music was interrupted for periods when earning degrees in psychology and immersing himself in Buddhist practice, study and teaching. He formed Blue Lion Music in 1996 in order to produce and promote live music performance in New York and Nantucket. He returned to Connecticut on the eve of Covid and has slowly been re-establishing his musical activity organically integrated with his therapy practice and spiritual path.

Every member of this group is a headliner. Jeff Fuller was well known as a jazz guitar player when he noticed that there were lots of guitarists and not many bass players. He decided to switch to the bass to make sure he got plenty of gigs, and has been busy ever since. When Jeff takes a solo, the room goes quiet.

Whether performing, teaching or composing, Jeff Fuller brings great joy and a wealth of experience to all his musical endeavors. One of the most sought after jazz bassists in Connecticut, Fuller has also toured worldwide and recorded with saxophonists Lou Donaldson and Paquito D’Rivera. He has played with jazz masters from all styles and eras including such diverse artists as Dizzy Gillespie, MoseAllison, “Papa” Jo Jones, Gerry Mulligan, and Clark Terry. In 2014, Fuller was presented with the annual Jazz Haven Award, “For all you have done in presenting and preserving the culture and music of jazz.” His trio, featuring Darren Litzie on piano and Ben Bilello on drums, has released five CDs featuring original music: The Call From Within (2014), Shoreline Blues (2016), Happenstance (2018) and Round & Round (2020). A fifth album, Keep Hope Alive, was released in 2022. Fuller’s compositions are frequently performed by jazz and classical ensembles, and his Latin jazz arrangements are published by Three-Two Music. www.jefffuller.net

“We bought Round and Round and Shoreline Blues the night you were at The Side Door. They both rank among the most gently inspiring albums I've ever owned since Dave Brubeck's Take Five which I came upon in Greenwich Village in 1962 and Stan Getz's Sweet Rain given to me by a midnight co...

A message from Sarah M!

Last year, we filled a record 11 Thanksgiving meal boxes for the Spooner House!

This year.....we filled 21! This is just remarkable, 21 local families will have a happier and less stressful holiday because of our efforts!

A huge thank you to Barb and Terry for helping sort and organize the donations, to Marty and Dave for delivering the boxes, and of course to all of you for donating!

We should be so proud of this outcome!

Many of us are undoubtedly flooded with emotions about the results of the election.

While we may not have all the answers on how to move forward, we at least have each other.

Tonight we will gather in our sanctuary at 6pm for a special post election service.

We will sing together, breathe together, share our worries and hopes, and be reminded of the supportive community we create together at UUCGB.

We hope you can join us this evening.
