Descendants’ Day in Honor of Juneteenth, Saturday, June 13 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. sponsored by Belle Grove Plantation of Middletown. This event celebrates the free and enslaved ancestors through food, faith, stories, and music. The program begins at 9 a.m. at Walnut Springs Christian Church with a service of worship and celebration led by Rev. Wendell Schurtz of Walnut Springs and Rev. Patti Brown of Mt. Zion UMC. Rev. Schurtz will tell the story of Benjamin Tanny, an enslaved man at Belle Grove who was baptized and became a member of the Walnut Springs congregation in 1831. A memorial walk will take place retracing Benjamin’s path from Belle Grove to Walnut Springs. Light refreshments will follow. The program continues at Belle Grove from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with genealogy and local history tables, stories told of enslaved ancestors by descendants, gospel music groups performing, and food available for purchase. The event is free to the public and all are invited to share in this day of history, celebration of freedom, and recommitment to the ongoing work of liberty and justice for all.

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, June 7 at 10 a.m. This Sunday we will meet in our church grove for an outdoor worship service followed by a picnic. Please bring a lawn chair, drinks for you and your family, and a covered dish to be shared in our meal. Come, enjoy God's creation and this time of fellowship together.
